On July 14, 2000, the Ministry of Education of China approved Chongqing University to carry out a pilot program of modern distance education. In February 2001, the Network Education College of Chongqing University was officially established.
In September 2003, Chongqing University signed a cooperation agreement with Beijing Hongcheng Technology Development Co., Ltd. to establish Chongqing Zhongda Yuanxing Technology Development Co., Ltd., providing technical support and management consulting services for the Network Education College of Chongqing University. The college establishes labor relations and guarantees for its employees in the name of Yuanxing Company. It currently has nearly 100 employees, and together with over 700 teachers and more than 500 staff members at over 150 learning centers, provides quality learning support services for over 50,000 enrolled students, carrying out Internet-based, fully part-time, distributed learning online degree education.
After ten years of construction and development, the Network Education College of Chongqing University has formed its own distinctive educational philosophy, a vibrant educational mechanism, an educational model suitable for individualized independent learning of adult in-service students, and a scientific teaching management model, enjoying a good social reputation. The college has been listed among the "Top Ten Popular Pilot Universities for Modern Distance Education" sponsored by the "Learning Harbor" website of China Distance Education magazine for five consecutive years (editions); and has won the title of "National Top Ten Network Education Colleges" for four consecutive editions in the national "Echo China" Tencent Education Annual Review organized by Tencent.
Relying on the strong educational strength and rich excellent teaching resources of Chongqing University, and aiming to cultivate application-oriented talents urgently needed by society, the college has offered undergraduate and associate degree education programs in civil engineering, engineering management, mechanical design manufacturing and automation, economics and business administration, computer science and technology, accounting, electric power economics, marketing, mining engineering, public administration, etc. All programs offered by the college have corresponding regular undergraduate programs at the university, and rely on national key disciplines of Chongqing University such as architecture, civil engineering, business administration, mechanical engineering, mining engineering, and electrical engineering, as well as Chongqing municipal key disciplines such as computer science and technology, gaining recognition from learners and employers.
