With the implementation of China's open-door policy, YCIS-Shanghai was established in 1993 in Shanghai Hongqiao Development Zone, introducing Yew Chung's educational programs into this rapidly developing city to serve its expatriate families. Shanghai Yew Chung was the first international school recognized by the Chinese government and has become an important "window" for the exchange of educational concepts and experiences between the East and the West in Eastern China. The second campus was opened in the Gubei area in the 1995/1996 school year and now provides boarding services for students whose parents work elsewhere in China. A third campus, offering kindergarten and primary education, was established in the rapidly developing Pudong area in the 1999/2000 school year. While celebrating its tenth anniversary, Shanghai Yew Chung will continue to develop and strive for quality education, working towards cultivating global citizens for the 21st century.
