"Taikuntang" is a modern chain of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) institutions in China, pioneering the inheritance of Shanghai-style TCM, integrating medical care, education, and research. Currently, it has established 6 hospitals and clinics, including Shanghai Taikuntang TCM Hospital, Shanghai Taikuntang East Branch, Hangzhou Qiantang Medical Hall, Chengdu Taikuntang National Medicine Hall, etc., in areas such as Shanghai's Puxi and Pudong, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing, and Wuxi. It is a member unit of the "Eleventh Five-Year" and "Twelfth Five-Year" National Key Specialty Collaborative Group of TCM, determined by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and one of the first advantageous specialty construction units of social medical institutions in Shanghai. Additionally, four special diseases have been recognized as municipal-level characteristic specialties by the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau. It is a designated medical insurance unit in Shanghai, Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Chengdu.

Under the care and support of the first honorary president, Professor Yu Jin, a famous TCM practitioner nationwide and in Shanghai, and many other renowned veteran TCM practitioners, Taikuntang adheres to the principles of "patients first, efficacy first, integrity first," insists on combining medical care, education, and research, strives to build an academic echelon combining senior, middle-aged, and young talents, and pays close attention to the development of specialty diseases and the inheritance of TCM schools. It has gathered more than 10 famous centuries-old schools in Shanghai and nationwide, forming stable and sustainable directions in TCM gynecology and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine gynecology, TCM spinal diseases, TCM dermatology, TCM oncology, TCM insomnia and emotional diseases, etc. It has successively established studios such as "Yu Jin Famous TCM Practitioner Studio," "Chen Yi Famous TCM Practitioner Studio," "Wang Xingjuan Academic Experience Research Office," "Gu's Surgery Inheritance Studio," "Shi's Bone Setting Inheritance Studio," "Zhu's Gynecology Demonstration Clinic," and "He's Hereditary Medicine Inheritance Studio." Currently, as project leaders, it undertakes 4 research projects from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning and Huangpu District.
