The hospital has established eight clinical departments with eighteen wards, as well as various outpatient clinics and fully equipped medical technology departments, all configured according to the standards of a second-class hospital. Approved by the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, it has set up 1,200 standardized beds. The new inpatient building under construction will be put into use in 2015, and the hospital will reach a scale of 1,700 beds.
The hospital has 21 senior medical, nursing, and technical personnel above the deputy chief level, more than 80 young and middle-aged physicians, over 100 rehabilitation therapists and other technical staff, 200 professional nurses, and 300 life care workers.
Based on the characteristics of geriatric diseases, the hospital prioritizes the development of cardiology, neurology, and rehabilitation departments, and has established an intensive care unit. It has increased research on geriatric cardiovascular and neurological diseases, adopting a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine as well as modern rehabilitation medicine methods, achieving certain results.
The hospital, in collaboration with Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, has established the Donghai Rehabilitation Medical Center, focusing on geriatric rehabilitation and disease-specific rehabilitation, mainly targeting elderly patients with early sequelae of cerebrovascular accidents, bone and joint cartilage tissue injuries, and muscle atrophy, fully meeting the rehabilitation needs of the elderly.
The hospital carries out targeted nursing work based on the physiological, psychological, and disease characteristics of the elderly. Over the years, it has cultivated four major nursing features: "specialized nursing, distinctive (bedsore) nursing, psychological nursing, and nurse etiquette." With a unique nursing model, advanced service concepts, rigorous work attitude, and humanized warm care, it alleviates pain for the elderly and improves their quality of life. At the same time, the hospital has pioneered the city's first elderly nursing model without family accompaniment.
Shanghai Donghai Geriatric Nursing Hospital was established in June 2002. It is a comprehensive hospital approved by the Shanghai municipal government's planning and operating according to the standards of a second-class hospital. It is a distinctive geriatric nursing hospital integrating "geriatric medical care, geriatric nursing, geriatric rehabilitation, and hospice care" based on international advanced concepts and combined with China's actual conditions. The hospital is a state-owned health institution and a designated hospital for Shanghai medical insurance.
The hospital is located on the beautiful and quiet coast of the East China Sea in Pudong New Area, with Pudong International Airport to the north, Yangshan Deep-Water Port to the south, and adjacent to Shanghai Flower Port, Binhai Forest Park, and Lingang Dishui Lake. The hospital has converted a series of staggered Spanish-style villa buildings into various wards, rationally arranging barrier-free facilities, monitoring corridors, hydraulic elevators, and warm rest halls in accordance with hygiene standards and medical procedures, while considering the psychological and physiological characteristics of the elderly. Currently, the hospital covers an area of over 60,000 square meters with a greening coverage rate of 51%.
The hospital has long adhered to the political and ethical education of its staff, advocating the work philosophy of "everything for the elderly" and striving to cultivate the "Donghai Nursing" brand. Over the past decade since its establishment, it has admitted more than 30,000 elderly patients, received hundreds of thank-you letters and banners, and achieved high satisfaction from patients and their families. The hospital actively participates in the health system's "Caring for Patients, Starting from Details" civilized theme activities, identifying gaps, formulating measures, and combining with the hospital's actual situation, launching the "Spring Breeze Action" to deliver the warmth of the Party and government to every elderly person. The hospital has been continuously rated as a Shanghai civilized unit and garden unit.
The hospital summarizes the past decade as "Ten years of sharing weal and woe, bearing historical missions, and forging brilliance with sweat." Now, the hospital has started a new decade of re-entrepreneurship. Building a modern, digital, and standardized new geriatric nursing hospital is our goal. Facing opportunities and challenges, Donghai Geriatric Nursing Hospital is confident in making persistent efforts and striving for greater contributions to Shanghai's elderly care cause
