Central & Southern Municipal Design Institute

Central & Southern China Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as: Central & Southern Municipal Design Institute, English abbreviation: CSMDI) was established in 1954, originally directly under the Ministry of Construction. After the reform of the institutional system for engineering survey and design units under the central government in 2000, it became part of China CITIC Group.
Our institute is a comprehensive Class A design institute, holding Class A qualifications in municipal engineering, construction engineering, water conservancy (urban flood control), highway engineering, comprehensive engineering survey, landscape architecture specialization, engineering consulting, engineering supervision, Class B cost consulting, Class A domestic sewage treatment operation, Class B urban planning, and pressure pipeline (GA1) design qualifications. It can undertake design work for Class A urban water supply, drainage, gas, heating, roads, bridges, buildings, tunnels, public transportation, rail transit, landscape architecture, environmental sanitation engineering, as well as services in urban planning, municipal engineering planning, engineering survey, engineering supervision, general contracting, project management, engineering consulting, and scientific research.
The head office consists of nine design institutes, a supervision company, an engineering consulting company, an information center, and affiliated water treatment equipment factories, providing comprehensive services for engineering design and construction. Since the reform and opening up, to meet the needs of economic development, while continuing to serve the central and southern regions, we have successively established a number of branch institutes or divisions across the country: in the Pan-Pearl River Delta, there are branches in Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Shantou, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Huizhou; in the Min Delta, there are branches in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Zhangzhou; in the Yangtze River Delta, there are branches in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wenzhou, Yangzhou, Ningbo, and Anqing; in the southwest region, there are branches in Chongqing, Haikou, Sanya, Kunming, Nanning, and Xinjiang. These branches have played an important role in expanding our market and rapid production and operation development, and have also made significant contributions to local urban infrastructure construction.
Over the past more than fifty years, our institute has completed over 3,000 survey, design, and scientific research tasks. Projects span major cities across China, including the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta, southeastern Fujian, and central and western regions. Various engineering designs have won more than 70 national, provincial, and ministerial excellent achievement awards; scientific research has won 4 National Science Conference Awards and 28 national, ministerial, and provincial science and technology progress awards. Among them, the largest water source pumping station designed has a capacity of 4 million tons/day, the largest water plant has a capacity of 1 million tons/day, the largest sewage treatment plant has a capacity of 2.6 million tons/day, and the largest waste treatment site has a capacity of 2,700 tons/day.
