Chongqing Iron and Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Chongqing Steel Group") is a large iron and steel conglomerate with a history of 123 years. Its predecessor was the Hanyang Iron Works founded by the late Qing government in 1890, and it can be regarded as the cradle of China's national iron and steel industry. Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and Jiang Zemin, the core leaders of three generations of the Communist Party of China, left footprints of inspection on this hot land of Chongqing Steel Group.



At the end of 2012, Chongqing Steel Group had more than 21,600 on-the-job employees and total assets of 70.4 billion yuan, making it the largest state-owned industrial enterprise under Chongqing Municipality. It implements a parent-subsidiary management system and currently has 19 subsidiaries, including 10 wholly-owned and 9 controlled ones. Its core subsidiary, the steel joint-stock company, is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange respectively.


In September 2011, Chongqing Steel's environmental relocation project with an annual output of 6.5 million tons of steel was completed and put into operation, marking the basic completion of a high-quality steel production base in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and China's largest high-quality marine steel base on the bank of the Yangtze River in Changshou, in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. At the same time, the main steel production lines in the old Dadukou plant area were fully, safely, and orderly shut down. In 2012, it achieved taxes and profits of 782 million yuan and profits of 329 million yuan, and with 2.004 million tons of marine steel production and sales and a market share of 18.3%, it ranked among the largest high-quality marine steel production bases in the country.



Since the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", Chongqing Steel Group has adopted a "going global" strategy and raised 3 billion US dollars to acquire a 10-million-ton-class iron ore base in Australia, once and for all curing the long-standing "heart disease" of iron ore resource constraints and becoming Chongqing's largest overseas investment in history. At present, it has large-scale control of resources including high-quality vanadium-titanium in Xichang with prospective reserves of 3 billion tons, high-quality iron ore in Australia with prospective reserves of 3.7 billion tons, and four self-owned iron mines in Chongqing and Shaanxi. It also controls modern port logistics resources for western China's access to the sea in Jingjiang, Jiangsu, and has a resource reserve advantage worth more than 10 trillion yuan. Implementing the "bringing in" strategy, it has formally "married" South Korea's POSCO and will introduce the epoch-making FINEX new technology for China's iron and steel industry.


After years of careful cultivation and development by Chongqing Steel Group, non-steel industries represented by environmental industry, mining, and real estate have gradually transformed their profit structure from "endogenous" to "market-oriented", and the strategic advantages of industrial development have begun to emerge. Chongqing Steel Group's Duoli Real Estate Company pioneered "systematic delivery of houses and certificates" in the country's real estate industry, becoming a benchmark for honest real estate nationwide, and successfully achieved profits of over 100 million yuan in 2012; Chongqing Steel Design Institute, starting from its status as a national high-tech enterprise, has achieved innovation-driven enterprise development in metallurgical technology, energy conservation and environmental protection, and other fields in Chongqing and even nationwide; Chongqing Steel Construction Company has repeatedly won the National Construction Quality Gold Award, creating an encouraging situation of simultaneous development in both internal and external markets; Chongqing Chaoyang Gas Company has built the largest, most diverse, and strongest professional gas production base in Chongqing and even the western region, and in 2012 became a national high-tech enterprise. Providing 70% of the ferrous metal materials for Shenzhou 9, Chongqing Iron and Steel Research Institute Company has become a major production base for domestic aerospace materials and aviation pipes.
