Chongqing Performing Arts Group was established in April 2010 and is a large state-owned cultural performing arts enterprise funded by the municipal government. It was formed through the integration of the former Chongqing Acrobatic Art Troupe, Chongqing Quyi Troupe, Chongqing Folk Orchestra, Chongqing Yue Opera Troupe, Chongqing Performance Management Office, and other units, with a registered capital of 50 million yuan. After its establishment, according to market demand, the Group initially formed a state-owned cultural enterprise group integrating artistic production, performance marketing, theater operation, performance planning, stage design and production, cultural relic restoration, and real estate development. At present, it has total assets of 229 million yuan and owns four theaters, including Chongqing International Circus City, Chongqing Grand Theatre (33% stake), Shancheng Quyi Theatre, and Guotai Art Center, and has established one performance base in the United States.
Chongqing Guotai Art Center is one of the city's top ten cultural public welfare facility projects. In September 2006, it was officially named Guotai Art Center. The project is located in the core area of Jiefangbei CBD, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, with a total construction area of about 35,000 square meters, a planned land area of 9,646 square meters, and an estimated total investment of 383 million yuan. Its basic functional positioning is to "rely on the commercial center, face the cultural market, and serve public needs." Chongqing Guotai Art Center will be built into a new business card for Chongqing's urban culture, the city's premier performing arts center, the main battlefield of the performance market, and a bridgehead for foreign cultural exchange, becoming a well-known cultural brand at home and abroad.
