University of Science and Technology of China Shanghai Institute (Shanghai Center for Quantum Engineering Excellence, USTC)

The Shanghai Institute of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) was established in 2004 as a new-type research institute founded by USTC in Shanghai. Following the principles of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) of "accurate positioning, standardized management, active promotion, and accelerated development," and guided by the philosophy of "following wisdom, advocating innovation," and with the mission of "leading advanced technology, cultivating top talents, and incubating innovative achievements," the Institute adheres to a new path of internationalization and industry-academia-research integration, achieving institutional and mechanistic innovation.

The Shanghai Institute, with its focus on "graduate education as the foundation, talent attraction as the main line, R&D platform construction as the development carrier, and the transfer, transformation, and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements as the work priority," is committed to building itself into a center for leading technology R&D and innovation, a highland for gathering and cultivating top talents, and a science park integrating industry, academia, and research.

Located in Kangqiao Industrial Park, the Shanghai Institute occupies an independent campus of over 50 mu (approximately 3.3 hectares), away from the hustle and bustle, with a beautiful environment, modern buildings, teaching facilities, and a student cafeteria. Currently, it hosts top domestic and international scientific teams, including the School of Management, the quantum information research team, and the "triple-play convergence" research team.

With the approval of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the development of the Shanghai Institute has been incorporated into USTC's ten-year strategic development plan. The University will gradually introduce a number of major scientific projects and technological achievements with high international visibility and impact, vigorously carry out high-level management and engineering technology talent education oriented towards Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region, and respond to the needs of the vast overseas alumni community for entrepreneurship, building a bridgehead and incubator for welcoming overseas resources, and creating a base with international influence for high-level management and engineering talent education, scientific research innovation, and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.

The CAS Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Technology Frontiers (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") is a center of excellence established by the CAS under the "Pioneer Action" plan in the field of quantum information and quantum technology frontiers. Based at USTC, the Center is led by Academician Pan Jianwei. In recent years, the Center has brought together a group of high-level scientists and academic leaders in the field of quantum information in China, achieving a series of major scientific results with international influence. It has led national major projects such as the "Quantum Science Experiment Satellite" and the thousand-kilometer fiber-optic quantum communication backbone network project "Beijing-Shanghai Trunk Line," and has become an academic highland with significant international influence in frontier and applied research in quantum physics and quantum information.
