The High School Attached to Hunan Normal University was founded in 1905. Its predecessor was the Weiyi School founded by Mr. Yu Zhimo, a pioneer of the democratic revolution. It was later renamed Guangyi Middle School. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was successively renamed Hunan Provincial Guangyi Middle School, Changsha No. 4 Middle School, and the Middle School Attached to Hunan Normal College. In 1984, it was renamed The High School Attached to Hunan Normal University. It is one of the first batch of exemplary regular senior high schools in Hunan Province and is a unit directly under the province.
