Shanghai Electric Tool Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. was founded in 1955. It was originally a first-class research institute of science and technology development directly under the Ministry of Machinery Industry of China. It is a professional scientific research institution specializing in the common and key technologies of the electric tool industry nationwide. It is the technical authority research institute for the electric tool industry in China and the main unit for the formulation and revision of the national electric tool standard system. The institute is mainly engaged in scientific research, technical services, and commercialization of research findings in fields such as electrical appliances and accessories, intelligent assembly technology, new energy lithium battery systems, power supply technology, shore power equipment, microgrid energy storage technology, electrical insulation materials, special electrical testing instruments and equipment, electromagnetic compatibility measurement and test instruments and equipment, and technical standard formulation. It is a comprehensive scientific research institution integrating research, manufacturing, standards, testing, metrology, industry management, and services. The institute is the technical authority unit for the electric tool, appliance switch, and special electrical testing instrument and equipment industries nationwide. It is a vice-chairman unit of the China Electrical Equipment Industrial Association, the chairman and secretary-general unit of the Electric Tool Branch, the chairman and secretary-general unit of the National Electric Tool Standardization Technical Committee and the Appliance Switch Sub-committee of the National Electrical Accessories Standardization Technical Committee, the secretary-general unit of the Energy Industry Shore Power Facilities Standardization Technical Committee and the Shore Power Electrical Equipment Sub-committee, the director unit of the National Electric Tool Industry Productivity Promotion Center, the technical service center for Chinese electric tool export products, and is responsible for the Chinese centralized management of the corresponding technical committees of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The magazine "Electric Tools", published by the institute, is the core Chinese technical journal in the industry.
