China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. (FSDI), established in 1953 and headquartered in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, is one of the first large-scale comprehensive railway survey and design institutes in New China, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), a Fortune Global 500 company. The institute's comprehensive strength ranks among the top of the national survey and design institutes. Adhering to the principles of technology-based development and innovation-driven growth, FSDI has created hundreds of national and world firsts since its inception, contributing to the construction of China's first electrified railway, the first desert railway, the world's first plateau permafrost railway, the first high-speed railway in collapsible loess areas, the first high-speed railway in cold regions, the high-speed railway with the longest one-time newly built mileage, and the first subway project to win the FIDIC Global Outstanding Project Award. It has designed and completed over 40,000 kilometers of railways, represented by the western railway network, and undertaken more than 6,000 kilometers of high-speed railways, establishing itself as one of the leaders in high-speed railway design. FSDI's comprehensive strength in urban rail transit design ranks among the top in China, undertaking rail transit projects in more than 30 cities nationwide, covering various types such as subways, light rails, regional rail transit, trams, and maglev systems, including planning research and survey design. It has also carried out research and design for over 20 tourism rail transit projects in 11 provinces and regions, becoming a pioneer in the "Transportation + Tourism + N" model. The institute continues to expand into emerging business areas such as new-type rail transit, ecological environmental protection, TOD, and station-city integration (area) development. Actively implementing the "going global" strategy and following the pace of the "Belt and Road" initiative, FSDI has undertaken survey, design, consulting, supervision, and other tasks for railway, highway, subway, and other projects totaling over 2,000 kilometers in more than 40 countries, gradually transforming and upgrading toward international high-end consulting. FSDI's business scope covers the entire process and full industry chain, including engineering planning, survey, design, consulting, supervision, general contracting, real estate, capital operation, and comprehensive property development. It holds over 20 Class A qualification certificates in national engineering survey, engineering design, engineering supervision, and engineering consulting, and was the first in the industry to pass ISO9001 certification. It has established and operates an integrated management system for quality, environment, and occupational health and safety, and has obtained the UK Royal UKAS certification. The institute has established the "State Key Laboratory of Rail Transit Engineering Informatization," the "Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Railways and Underground Transportation Engineering," as well as academician expert studios and post-doctoral research workstations. FSDI has always regarded talent and technology as the dual wings of enterprise development. Currently, it has 4,200 employees, including a group of leading figures with industry influence. Among them, there is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 8 national engineering survey and design masters, 33 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, nearly 200 provincial and ministerial-level talents of various types, over 2,000 personnel with senior engineer or above titles, and over 1,200 registered professionals with various national qualifications. Since its establishment, the institute has won over 1,200 national, provincial, and ministerial awards, including 4 National Science and Technology Progress Special Prizes, 3 First Prizes, and 11 National Excellent Engineering Survey and Design Gold Awards. It holds over 1,000 patented technologies, including more than 160 invention patents and 850 utility model patents, and has won 13 FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) awards.
