Coal Science Research Institute Xi'an Research Institute

China Coal Technology and Engineering Group Xi'an Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xi'an Research Institute), established in May 1956, was relocated as a whole from Beijing to Xi'an in August 1965. It is a large state-owned key science and technology enterprise directly under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC). After more than 60 years of development, it has become a national key high-tech enterprise with outstanding advantages in the fields of coal geological exploration, geological guarantee technology for safe and efficient coal mining, equipment and engineering. It has been rated as "Advanced Collective of Central Enterprises" by the SASAC, awarded "Advanced Collective of Shaanxi Province" by the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and Government, and awarded the national title of "Contract-honoring and Credit-worthy Enterprise". In 1993, it entered the top 300 among 4,871 natural science research and development institutions nationwide evaluated by the National Science and Technology Commission, ranking first in the category of geological survey and exploration.
For more than 60 years, Xi'an Research Institute has been the main force in promoting scientific and technological progress in the coal industry. It has undertaken 1,793 scientific research projects at various levels including national, provincial, and ministerial levels, won 350 science and technology awards including national first and second prizes for scientific and technological progress and provincial/ministerial awards, holds 336 valid patents (186 invention patents), 150 software copyrights, and has drafted 111 national and industrial standards. By 2019, Xi'an Research Institute had established exchange and cooperation relationships with relevant institutions and enterprises in more than 40 countries including Russia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Italy, Japan, India, Turkey, Poland, Kazakhstan, Albania, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
In 2019, the operating revenue was 2.03 billion yuan, and the total profit was 172 million yuan. The current total number of employees is 1,581, including 76 with senior professional titles, 291 with associate senior professional titles, and 530 with intermediate professional titles. There are 17 functional departments and 23 professional research institutes (centers), 2 holding companies, 1 participating company, 1 wholly-owned subsidiary, and 1 branch. The business covers three major business systems: resource exploration and development, mine safety technology and equipment, and mine ecological environment restoration and disaster control. It has six core technologies: fine geological exploration and coalbed methane resource development, mine water disaster prevention and rescue, geological disaster control, comprehensive mine geophysical prospecting, special stratum and special process drilling, and intelligent drilling equipment development. Ten advantageous industries are at the international advanced or leading level: resource exploration technology and engineering, mine water disaster prevention technology and engineering, geological disaster prevention and underground space development engineering, environmental assessment technology and treatment engineering, coalbed methane resource assessment and development engineering, gas prevention and mine dynamic disaster prevention technology and engineering, geophysical exploration technology and engineering, drilling and well drilling engineering, drilling equipment R&D and manufacturing, and geophysical instrument R&D and manufacturing.
Currently, Xi'an Research Institute has built the National Safety Production Xi'an Exploration Equipment Testing and Inspection Center (Grade A), two laboratories of the safety production technical support system national center (laboratory for mine water inrush condition identification and identification technology and equipment, laboratory for mine water disaster identification and treatment technology simulation), and the Shaanxi Province Key Laboratory of Coal Mine Water Disaster Prevention Technology
