Baoguang Tongcheng (Guangdong) Trading Co., Ltd. is affiliated with Baoguang Industrial (International) Co., Ltd. Baoguang was founded in Hong Kong in 1963, initially as a manufacturer of watch parts, exporting stainless steel watch parts to foreign countries. After just 10 years, it was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1972 (stock code: 84).
The English name "STELUX" of Baoguang is derived from "Steel" and "luxury". This is because in the early 1960s, the stainless steel parts manufactured by the group were regarded as luxury products.
Since then, Baoguang's business has continued to expand, and it has now established widely recognized industry leadership in the retail and wholesale of watches and eyewear in the Asian region. The brands operated by the group, such as "City Chain", "Optical 88", "Seiko Watch", and "eGG", are all well-known brands and have established a solid foundation in the countries and regions where the group operates.
In 1985, Baoguang opened City Chain in Hong Kong, creating a completely innovative watch retail culture. Targeting middle-income consumers, City Chain sells multiple brands and lifestyle watches in a single watch retail store, fundamentally changing the traditional department store counter retail model for watches. Since then, City Chain has grown increasingly, with more than 400 stores in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Mainland China. City Chain sells a variety of trend-setting watches, ranging from agency brands to the group's own brands, including its well-known "Titus" brand. In 2002, City Chain was honored as a "Hong Kong Superbrand". On October 11, 2017, it won the "Brand of the Year" award at the World Brand Awards ceremony held at the iconic Kensington Palace in London. City Chain is also the only brand in Hong Kong's watch industry to win an award this year.
In 1988, Baoguang acquired the promising eyewear business "Optical 88" and subsequently expanded it to Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Mainland China, focusing on the mid-to-high-end market. "Optical 88" always leads industry trends, being the first to provide professional and high-quality eye care and after-sales service. It currently has over 200 stores, where customers can choose from numerous international brands, including both agency and self-owned brands. "Optical 88" was honored as a "Hong Kong Superbrand" in 2009.
In 2005, Baoguang further assisted the expansion of its watch retail business by acquiring Tongcheng Group, which held exclusive distribution rights for "Seiko" branded watches in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
In 2011, the group opened "eGG", a retail chain providing single-brand frames and lenses, targeting young and fashion-conscious customers. The first "eGG" store opened in Hong Kong, and there are currently over 60 stores in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Mainland China.
