Chongqing Science and Technology Museum

Chongqing Science and Technology Museum is one of the ten key projects of social and cultural infrastructure determined by the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. It is a modern, comprehensive, multi-functional large-scale science popularization education activity venue for the public, and a basic science popularization facility for implementing the strategy of "rejuvenating Chongqing through science and education" and improving citizens' scientific and cultural literacy. Chongqing Science and Technology Museum is located in the core area of Chongqing Jiangbeizui Central Business District (CBD) at the confluence of the Yangtze River and Jialing River. The foundation stone was laid on January 7, 2006, construction started in October of the same year, and it was completed and opened on September 9, 2009. The museum covers an area of 37 mu, with a building area of 45,300 square meters (of which the exhibition education area is 30,000 square meters), and a total investment of 567 million yuan (of which 400 million yuan for construction and installation engineering, and 167 million yuan for exhibition engineering).

The exterior of Chongqing Science and Technology Museum uses two materials: stone and glass. The exterior wall stone uses multiple colors overlapping, like hard rock, metaphorically representing "mountain"; the glass curtain wall, accounting for 60% of the entire exterior wall and nearly 10,000 square meters, is clear and transparent, metaphorically representing "water". The sharp edges of the stone and the transparent glass like water perfectly highlight the characteristics of Chongqing as a "City of Mountains and Rivers". Chongqing Science and Technology Museum is divided into Zone A and Zone B. The highest point of the building in Zone A is about 57 meters, and the lowest is 24 meters. Viewed from the air, it looks like a huge "fan-shaped crystal palace", with a grand and magnificent shape.

Chongqing Science and Technology Museum takes "Life·Society·Innovation" as its exhibition theme. The museum has 6 themed exhibition halls: Life Science and Technology, Disaster Prevention Science and Technology, Transportation Science and Technology, Science and Technology, Aerospace Science and Technology, and Basic Science, as well as 2 special exhibition halls: Children's Science Paradise and Light of Industry. Exhibits cover multiple disciplines including materials, machinery, transportation, aerospace, microelectronics technology, information and communication, computer applications, virtual simulation technology, life sciences, environmental sciences, basic sciences, and ancient Chinese science and technology. The number of exhibits will reach more than 400 pieces (sets).

Chongqing Science and Technology Museum takes "International Advanced·Domestic First-class·Chongqing Characteristics" as its construction goal, and carries out science popularization education activities for the public through science and education exhibitions, scientific experiments, science and technology training, and other forms and channels. The staff of Chongqing Science and Technology Museum will continuously improve and expand the functional system of the science and technology museum, making it a "platform to experience the charm of science, a hall to inspire innovative ideas, a window to display scientific and technological achievements, and a front for science popularization education".
