The hospital was founded in 2005, named in memory of Professor Tu Kaiyuan, a leading figure in orthopedics in China. In the same year, Shanghai Kaiyuan Orthopedic Hospital carried out renovation and expansion in full accordance with the standards of a modern tertiary orthopedic hospital. After the renovation, the hospital's usable area is 20,000 square meters, and the number of beds will expand from the original 220 to 330, including a VIP special ward area with 25 beds.
