South China Biomedical Research Institute

South China Biomedical Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) is a public institution established with independent legal personality by the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. Founded in 2012, it was renamed from South China Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center to South China Biomedical Research Institute in 2016, with its registered address at No. 1, Luoxuan 4th Road, Guangzhou International Bio Island. The Institute focuses on the transformation of biomedical technology achievements, and around the biomedical and health industry, it conducts research on clinical treatment, rehabilitation, and anti-aging technologies using cells and stem cells, as well as innovative development and transformation in fields such as chemical and biological drugs, vaccines and diagnostic reagents, and medical devices. Currently, it has established R&D, achievement transformation, and technical service platforms with a total area of nearly 20,000 square meters on Bio Island and in Luogang, including complete stem cell R&D and storage, as well as platforms for the R&D and pilot production of biological drugs, chemical drugs, and diagnostic reagents. It carries out R&D on biological products such as small molecules, antibodies, and vaccines, and provides third-party technical services such as gene, protein, and drug/toxin testing. It has become the South China sub-center of the National Cord Blood Bank, as well as a provincial new R&D institution and engineering center. At present, the total value of equipment has reached hundreds of millions of yuan, and the staff size has reached about one hundred people (including one National Outstanding Youth Fund recipient). Since its establishment, it has led 1 national key project, 3 provincial and ministerial projects, and 17 municipal projects. It has published a total of 37 papers, of which 21 are indexed by SCI, EI, and ISTP. It has obtained 76 valid invention patents and 2 utility model patents, driving technological innovation of local research institutions and enterprises, and its social and economic benefits have gradually become prominent.
