The Company was restructured from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone Development Company, approved by Shanghai Municipal Construction Commission under Document No. 435 (Hu Jian Jing 92) on May 19, 1992. On May 28, 1992, approved by Shanghai Branch of the People's Bank of China under Document No. 37 (Hu Ren Jin Gu Zi 92), the Company publicly issued domestic shares (A shares) listed on the domestic stock exchange and commenced trading.
On September 11, 2015, "Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone Development Co., Ltd." was renamed as "Shanghai Waigaoqiao Group Co., Ltd.", and the English name was changed from "SHANGHAI WAIGAOQIAO FREE TRADE ZONE DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD." to "SHANGHAI WAIGAOQIAO FREE TRADE ZONE GROUP CO., LTD.".
