Shanghai Electrical Apparatus Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as "SEARI"), founded in 1953, was originally a direct-affiliate institution of the Ministry of Mechanical Industry. It is a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive first-class research institute in China's electrical industry and has made significant contributions to promoting standardization research in the electrical industry. In 1999, the institution transformed into a technology-based enterprise, injecting new momentum into SEARI's development. In 2004, SEARI took the lead in achieving overall institutional reform in China and entered the fast track of innovative development. SEARI not only masters core technologies in intelligent electrical apparatus, high-efficiency motors, testing and certification, and marine electrical systems, but also promotes technological progress in big data and industrial internet, smart grid and energy internet, robots and artificial intelligence, smart city and smart transportation, intelligent manufacturing and green manufacturing. Closely following national strategies such as big data, Internet+, Intelligent Manufacturing 2025, green manufacturing, and new infrastructure, SEARI has carried out a series of new technology breakthroughs and new project implementations in intelligent manufacturing, energy internet, intelligent connected vehicles, and science and industry. In recent years, it has achieved over 800 scientific research results, obtained nearly 500 patents, and over 100 software copyrights. It has led or participated in the formulation and revision of more than 1,000 international and domestic technical standards, enhancing SEARI's discourse power in the field of intelligent electrical apparatus at home and abroad. SEARI currently has more than 2,000 employees, with professional and technical personnel accounting for over 75%. It has 2 experts of the National Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Program, 52 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 8 Shanghai leading talents, and 11 outstanding academic leaders of Shanghai. In addition, two experts serve as chairman and vice-chairman of relevant special committees of the International Electrotechnical Commission.
