Asia Pacific Satellite Broadband Communication (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as APSAT) is a national high-tech enterprise jointly initiated and established in July 2016 by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, units affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, and the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, with paid-in capital of 2 billion yuan. It is committed to building a global high-throughput broadband satellite communication system and creating a "satellite+" industrial cluster.
The first satellite, Asia Pacific 6D, was successfully launched in July 2020 and was jointly announced as operational by leaders including the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It received in-depth coverage from authoritative media such as CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, and People's Daily Online, as well as widespread attention from the industry.
Asia Pacific 6D ("Shenzhen Star") is the world's first high-throughput satellite customized for mobile carrier communications. The satellite is positioned at the prime orbital slot of 134°E, with signal coverage of approximately one-third of the Earth's surface area, including all members of RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership). The bandwidth of Asia Pacific 6D is an order of magnitude higher than traditional satellites, and its single-satellite communication capacity is more than ten to several dozen times higher than traditional satellites, effectively meeting the needs for high-speed internet access, digital transformation, and high-quality development for aircraft, ships, and remote areas in the Asia-Pacific region.
APSAT has assembled a talent team with academicians as advisors, municipal and district high-level talents as the core, and doctoral graduates as the backbone. It has established a Shenzhen Academician Workstation and a Peng Cheng Laboratory Academician Studio; jointly established the "National Space Administration Satellite Communication System Innovation Center" with the Fifth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology; with the support of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, set up a branch of the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Space-Ground Information Technology; established a Shenzhen Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base; and conducts extensive cooperation with well-known domestic and international universities, research institutes, and Fortune Global 500 enterprises such as the China Academy of Space Technology, Peng Cheng Laboratory, Tsinghua University, and Wuhan University.
