Shanghai Urban Construction Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Urban Construction Design Institute), established in 1963, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd. It is a comprehensive design consulting and research unit mainly engaged in survey, design, and general contracting for infrastructure construction. It holds national Class A qualifications for comprehensive engineering design, comprehensive engineering survey, and other qualifications, as well as Class A credit for engineering consulting, providing full-industry and full-process services for engineering construction. Centering on the vision of being 'a nationally renowned comprehensive service provider of engineering design consulting with the most advantageous industrial chain,' all staff remain true to the original aspiration and forge ahead. In 2019, it was ranked among the Top 60 Chinese Engineering Design Enterprises (28th) for consecutive years, and was awarded the title of Benchmark Enterprise for the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up in Shanghai's survey and design industry. The institute is committed to focusing on technological innovation. As a high-tech enterprise, it has established a Model Worker Studio, a post-doctoral research station, and three municipal-level research centers: Shanghai Urban Stormwater Management Engineering Technology Research Center, Shanghai Industrialized and Prefabricated Municipal Engineering Technology Research Center, and Shanghai Tram Engineering Technology Research Center, as well as nine group-level R&D centers. It has achieved fruitful results in scientific exploration and technological innovation, winning nearly a thousand national, ministerial, and municipal awards and holding nearly a thousand patents. It has led or participated in the compilation of various standards, specifications, and general drawings, promoting industry development. The institute focuses on serving urban function upgrades. It comprises 13 design institutes, 1 general contracting department, 7 wholly-owned subsidiaries, 2 controlled subsidiaries, 14 regional branches, and 1 regional office. With strong resource integration and general contracting management capabilities, it provides owners with high-quality integrated services. It integrates livable concepts into design works and spreads its designs across the country and around the world. The institute brings together a large number of excellent designers. Among its nearly 2,500 employees, more than 35% hold master's or doctoral degrees, and it boasts industry elites such as recipients of special government allowances, model workers, Shanghai top talents, outstanding figures in major construction projects, and national youth job experts. It adheres to quality-oriented and integrity-based management, and has passed the integrated quality, environment, occupational health and safety management system certification and intellectual property management system certification. It has created many 'firsts' in China: the first expressway—Hujia Expressway, and the first systematic urban elevated road—the Inner Ring Road. It actively responds to the 'Belt and Road' initiative and has devoted itself to the design of the India Metro and the China-Russia Heilongjiang River Bridge.
