ICT, CAS

The Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICT, CAS), founded in 1956, is the first academic institution in China dedicated to comprehensive research in computer science and technology. ICT successfully developed China's first general-purpose digital electronic computer and has established itself as a base for high-performance computer research and development. China's first general-purpose CPU chip was also born here.

ICT is the cradle of China's computer industry. Throughout its development, it has cultivated hundreds of China's earliest computer technology professionals, and more than twenty academicians have worked or studied here. With the advancement of disciplines and technology, several research institutions, including the Institute of Microelectronics of CAS, the Computing Center, the Institute of Software, and the Network Center, as well as high-tech enterprises such as Lenovo and Dawning, have been spun off from ICT. Over the past fifty years, ICT has achieved remarkable accomplishments in scientific research and technological outcomes. By the end of 2015, ICT had received 219 national, academy, municipal, and ministerial-level science and technology awards, including 47 national-level awards (10 as a non-first completing unit) and 172 academy, municipal, and ministerial-level awards (13 as a non-first completing unit).

ICT adheres to the principle of "fundamental, strategic, and forward-looking" research, follows the academy's guidelines for the new era, and is committed to "entering the international frontier, focusing on national welfare and people's livelihood, and leading China's information industry." It upholds the philosophy of "innovation and pragmatism" and strives to become a world-class research institution.
