Its main businesses include film investment, distribution, cinema chain management, and theater screening. In 2020, 2021, and 2023, Bona Film was honored with the "Top 30 National Cultural Enterprises" award. Over the years of operation, Bona Film's film products have balanced commercial and artistic value, achieving good social and economic benefits. The company has produced over 300 films in total, with cumulative box office revenue exceeding 60 billion yuan, consistently ranking among the top three private Chinese film companies in terms of box office share. It has won more than 400 domestic and international awards, leading among private film companies in the number of awards.
In terms of film business, in recent years, Bona Film has successfully explored an innovative approach to expressing China's main-melody films. Titles such as "The Taking of Tiger Mountain," "Operation Mekong," "Operation Red Sea," "The Captain," "The Bravest," "The Decision at the Decisive Moment," "Chinese Doctors," "The Battle at Lake Changjin," "The Battle at Lake Changjin II," and "Hidden Blade" have achieved both social and economic success, with cumulative box office exceeding 23 billion yuan. Among them, the film "The Battle at Lake Changjin" clinched the highest box office in Chinese film history in its release year and maintained the record for two years. This series of films produced by Bona Film has won numerous important awards, including the "Five One Project Award" of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, the Huabiao Awards, the Golden Rooster Awards, the Hundred Flowers Awards, and the Golden Deer Awards.
The company is comprehensively advancing the high-quality content production of films and series (including short dramas). On July 8, 2024, the company produced and released the first AIGC-generated continuous narrative sci-fi short drama series in China, "Sanxingdui: Future Revelation," on Douyin, which amassed over 160 million total views across platforms during its broadcast. The airing of this AIGC short drama is a result of the company's exploration in the deep integration of AI video technology with film and television, adding a new track in the environment enabled by film and television technology. AIGC is a key to connecting upstream and downstream multimodal aspects of the film industry, achieving cost reduction and efficiency while exploring breakthrough changes brought by advanced technology. Micro-short dramas also serve as a touchstone for feature films, conducting early market exploration for large-scale productions. In 2024, the company co-produced the war-themed long series "Battle of Shangganling," which achieved an average viewership rating of 3.315%, the highest for TV dramas since December 2019. Additionally, "The Moment of Hunt," the final installment of the "Emotional Urban Suspense" trilogy, is expected to start filming this year. Produced by the original team behind "Under the Sun" and "Unexpected," the series continues the "cinematic feel" and "high-quality" production philosophy, highlighting the unique style and brand of the company's series division. Other TV series in preparation include "When Will the Moon Be Bright" and "Commissioner Lin Zexu."
In recent years, Bona Film has also continuously improved its downstream terminal platforms, building nearly a hundred modern multi-screen cinemas in major cities, closing the loop for a group-level industry chain. In February 2019, the company obtained the first cinema chain license after the issuance of the "Opinions on Accelerating Cinema Construction and Promoting the Prosperous Development of the Film Market," further consolidating the full industry chain layout. As of the end of December 2024, the company owned 111 cinemas with 908 screens.
