惠州市第六人民医院始建于1949年9月，前身是中国人民解放军粤赣湘边纵队健康医院，是淡澳区域规模zui大的一所集医疗、急救、预防、保健、科研与教学工作为一体的三级甲等综合性医院。医院先后被授予爱婴医院、全国百姓放心医院、广东省百家文明医院、广东省抗击非典模范集体、广东省县域(区)优秀医院管理团队、中国母婴友好医院、管理创新医院等荣誉称号，是南方医科大学非直属附属医院、广东省高等医学院校教学医院、广东省普通高等医学教育临床教学基地。
医院编制床位1200张，实际开放床位1106张，开设34个住院病区，分设门诊部1间，分院2间。全院年门急诊病人约140万人次，出院病人约4.5万人次，年手术量逾2.5万台次。
医院现有工作人员2000余名，其中博士后1名、博士研究生19名、硕士研究生127名，高级职称236名，中级职称457名，广东省杰出青年医学人才1名，享受国务院津贴1名，广东省名中医1名，惠州名医4名、名中医1名，区管拔尖人才4名。每年各级科研课题立项约30余项，每年专利获批10余项，国内外正式发表刊物每年约300篇，科研经费每年持续增加。
医院学科齐全，技术力量雄厚、特色专科突出，设置临床科室34个，医技科室7个，拥有市级重点专科12个，惠阳区特色专科2个，是惠阳区孕产妇危急重症救治中心、新生儿危急重症救治中心，2018年通过中国胸痛中心（标准版）认证，2021年通过国家综合防治卒中中心认证。2021年通过急性上消化道出血救治快速通道认证，2022年1月推出互联网医院诊疗服务，2023年成功备案医疗器械临床试验机构并通过首次现场检查。
