The Space Engineering General Department of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the Space Engineering General Department) is affiliated with the Second Academy of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation and serves as the overall unit in the space field of CASIC, integrating satellite research and development, manufacturing, and application. It was officially established on December 22, 2017, with the main responsibility of developing *space engineering products and technologies and supporting the aerospace industry of the Group and the Second Academy, striving to build a *aerospace industry general department. As a pilot unit for state-owned enterprise reform, it was selected as a "Double Hundred Enterprise" by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and was recognized as a National High-tech Enterprise and a *Specialized, Refined, Distinctive, and Innovative "Little Giant" Enterprise. On May 29, 2015, CASIC approved the establishment of the Space Engineering General Department of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the Space General Department) based on the Space Technology General Design Department of the Second Academy, as a platform for the Group's space engineering technology research, system development, and industrial transformation, responsible for guiding and driving the industrial development of the Group in the space engineering field. On December 22, 2017, with the approval of CASIC, the Space Engineering General Department was jointly established by China Aerospace Science and Industry Defense Technology Research Institute, Beijing Institute of Electronic Engineering General Design, Beijing Institute of Radio Measurement, Beijing Institute of Remote Sensing Equipment, Beijing Institute of Mechanical Equipment, Beijing Institute of Computer Technology and Application, Beijing Xinfeng Aerospace Equipment Co., Ltd., and Hubei Yangtze River Aerospace Industry Investment Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership) (hereinafter referred to as the Yangtze River Fund) on the basis of the Space General Department, with a registered capital of 300 million RMB and a registered address in Wuhan, Hubei Province. On December 30, 2021, the Space Engineering General Department completed Series A financing, introducing 10 external investors including Beijing Financial Street Capital Operation Group Co., Ltd., and its registered capital increased to 1.448 billion RMB. The General Department currently has more than 500 employees. Among the R&D personnel, 91% hold a master's degree or above, 35.4% have a deputy senior professional title or above, and 67% are under 35 years old. Among them, there is 1 overseas high-level expert, 3 recipients of special government allowances, 3 experts at the group level, 2 academic and technical leaders at the group level, 1 young top-notch reserve talent at the group level, 3 recipients of awards from the Aerospace Foundation, 4 recipients of the title of Wenjin Talent, a total of 9 person-times for various awards including Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 15 person-times for other talents at the academy level or above. The professional fields involved include 5 major directions: space engineering overall technology, space vehicle technology, space payload technology, space application technology, and intelligent manufacturing technology, subdivided into 16 first-level disciplines and 47 second-level disciplines, with a complete set of core specialties. The General Department is committed to becoming the main force in the national aerospace field, a *pioneer in differentiated innovation and development in aerospace, a pioneer in business model innovation and development, and a forerunner in intelligent batch production of satellites. The General Department focuses on national strategic directions, deeply cultivates the 1+6+N industrial layout, and firmly plants the genes of the aerospace foundation. With the corporate vision of building a "*aerospace industry general department", it is committed to forming a satellite research and development, design, and manufacturing process with the main overall technical characteristics of "light, agile, fast, and inexpensive", and possessing rapid satellite design and batch production capabilities. The General Department has a multi-location layout, with a research and development center and an international exchange center in Beijing. In Wuhan, it has a headquarters base, a satellite production and manufacturing center, a satellite science and technology education center, and a satellite exhibition center. The Wuhan Satellite Industrial Park is located in the National Aerospace Industry Base in Xinzhou District, Wuhan, Hubei Province. The overall planned area of the industrial park is 426 mu, and the first phase covers 200 mu. In May 2021, the satellite industrial park was put into use. It currently has 8 main buildings with a construction area of more than 80,000 square meters. It has a domestic satellite intelligent production line, covering multiple subsystems such as warehousing and logistics, intelligent sub-assembly, intelligent final assembly, testing and experimentation, and can realize the entire production process from the warehousing of parts and components to the off-line of complete satellites. As China's "flexible intelligent, digital twin, cloud manufacturing" small satellite intelligent production line, it was selected as one of the "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Advances in China's Intelligent Manufacturing in 2021".
