中国文化遗产研究院是国家文物局直属的公益二类事业单位。其前身可追溯至 1935 年成立的 “旧都文物整理委员会”，1949 年更名。主要职责涵盖多方面，如开展文化遗产战略、法规等研究，发挥文物保护智库作用；实施世界文化遗产监测预警及相关信息系统建设；承担不可移动文物勘测、保护等工作，研发相关技术并提供服务，还承担文物保护对外援助工程；进行可移动文物修复研究等；开展行业培训与国际合作培训；开展主动性考古发掘及相关基础工作；管理院属企业与资产等。并且，它具备文物保护工程勘察设计甲级、施工一级等多项资质，是博士后工作站设站单位，还收藏有大量可追溯至 20 世纪 30 年代的特色图书资料。
