Yunnan Baiyao is a century-old time-honored Chinese brand created in 1902, a well-known trademark in China, and one of the first batch of national innovative enterprises. Since 2006, the company's main economic indicators have steadily ranked among the top in the national traditional Chinese medicine industry. In September 2021, MSCI upgraded its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) rating of Yunnan Baiyao, making it the highest-rated and the first A-rated listed company in Yunnan Province, as well as the highest-rated and the first A-rated (or above) pharmaceutical company on the Shenzhen stock market. Yunnan Baiyao was established as a factory in 1971 under the instructions of Premier Zhou Enlai, listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 1993 as the first listed company in Yunnan, achieved complete brand unification in 1996, successfully implemented corporate restructuring in 1999, launched the "Stabilize the Central, Highlight the Two Wings" product strategy in 2005, and began implementing the "New Baiyao, Big Health" industrial strategy in 2010, gradually developing from a proprietary Chinese medicine enterprise into one of the leading enterprises in China's big health industry. In 2016, Yunnan Baiyao implemented mixed-ownership reform at the holding level through capital increase and share expansion, absorbing over 20 billion yuan in private capital from Xinhua Du and Jiangsu Yuyue. In April 2019, with the approval of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, Yunnan Baiyao Group Co., Ltd. absorbed and merged Yunnan Baiyao Holdings Co., Ltd., achieving overall listing. State-owned and private capital stood side by side as the two largest shareholders, rationalizing the system and activating mechanisms. Due to its thoroughness and pioneering nature, Baiyao's mixed-ownership reform has been praised as the "Baiyao Model." In December 2019, Yunnan Baiyao ranked 66th on the 2019 Hurun Brand List with a brand value of 25.5 billion yuan, ranking first in the healthcare industry for consecutive years and remaining on the list for 11 consecutive years. In July 2020, Yunnan Baiyao was selected as one of the "Top 500 Chinese Listed Companies by Market Value," ranking 140th. In July 2021, Yunnan Baiyao was selected as one of the "Top 25 Global Pharmaceutical Brand Value" and as "China's Strongest Pharmaceutical Brand."
