CATL is headquartered in Ningde City, Fujian Province. The company has established eleven battery production bases globally, located in Ningde, Fujian; Liyang, Jiangsu; Xining, Qinghai; Yibin, Sichuan; Zhaoqing, Guangdong; Lingang, Shanghai; Xiamen, Fujian; Yichun, Jiangxi; Guiyang, Guizhou; Jining, Shandong; and Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany. Additionally, it has subsidiaries in Munich, Germany; Paris, France; Yokohama, Japan; and Detroit, the United States.

CATL's development goal is to replace traditional fossil fuel-based stationary and mobile energy systems with advanced batteries and efficient power systems using renewable energy such as wind, solar, and hydro. With electrification and intelligence as the core, the company aims to achieve integrated innovation in market applications. To this end, it continuously innovates in four dimensions: materials and material systems, system structure, extreme manufacturing, and business models.

In 2021, the company's operating revenue reached 130.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 159%, and net profit was 15.9 billion yuan, up 185%. Sales of power battery systems and energy storage systems increased by 132% and 601% year-on-year respectively, while overseas revenue grew by 252%. According to SNE Research data, CATL ranked first globally in power battery usage for five consecutive years, and the company has the most extensive partnerships with vehicle manufacturers worldwide. According to ICC Xinluo Information, in 2021, CATL's energy storage battery production accounted for the highest global market share.

CATL places great emphasis on R&D and has established five R&D centers in Ningde, Liyang, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Munich, Germany. In 2021, R&D expenses reached 7.7 billion yuan, up 115% year-on-year, with cumulative R&D investment exceeding 14.2 billion yuan over the past three years. The company employs 10,079 R&D personnel, including 170 with doctoral degrees and 2,086 with master's degrees. Its R&D capabilities cover material development, product development, engineering design, testing and analysis, intelligent manufacturing, information systems, and project management. CATL owns the National Engineering Research Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage Technology, the Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Lithium-ion Battery Enterprises, a testing and verification center certified by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), and the 21C Innovation Laboratory focusing on frontier fundamental research in energy storage and conversion. It has also established a post-doctoral research station and a Fujian Provincial Academician Expert Workstation. The company holds and has applied for a total of 10,222 domestic and international patents and has led or participated in the formulation or revision of over 70 domestic and international standards.

In 2021, CATL was recognized as a "Lighthouse Factory" by the World Economic Forum, and its Yibin base obtained the world's first zero-carbon battery factory certification. Leveraging its technological leadership and supply chain integration capabilities, CATL is building a new energy industry ecosystem that combines electrification and intelligence. It has launched innovative solutions such as smart charging stations integrating solar, storage, and charging, electric vessels, electric smart unmanned mines, and truck battery swapping. The battery swapping service brand EVOGO has introduced modular battery swapping solutions that are being rolled out nationwide, creating a closed-loop battery lifecycle service by developing new business models based on the separation of vehicle and battery, including battery leasing, swapping operations, and recycling.
