[Summary] Build a world of abundance and excellence.
Tesla's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
In 2003, a group of engineers who wanted to prove that electric vehicles were better, faster, and more fun to drive than gasoline cars founded Tesla in Silicon Valley. Today, Tesla not only manufactures pure electric vehicles but also produces solar panels and energy storage devices, providing a complete range of sustainable energy products and services, from clean energy production and storage to transportation. Tesla believes that the sooner the world moves away from fossil fuel dependence and towards zero emissions, the brighter the future for humanity.
In 2008, Tesla introduced the Roadster, showcasing Tesla's leading battery technology and electric powertrain. Subsequently, Tesla designed from scratch the world's first pure electric luxury sedan, the Model S, which is safe, efficient, high-performing, with exceptional range, and can be updated over-the-air (OTA) to continuously improve vehicle performance and experience, setting a benchmark for the future development of the electric vehicle industry. In 2015, Tesla expanded its product line with the Model X, a luxury electric SUV excelling in safety, speed, and performance.
Following the "Master Plan" proposed by Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, Tesla released the more affordable mid-size luxury electric car Model 3 in 2016, starting production in 2017. Shortly after, Tesla launched the Semi electric truck, combining safety and comfort. In 2019, the Model Y mid-size luxury SUV was introduced; the Cybertruck was also officially unveiled that year, reshaping perceptions of pickup trucks with higher performance than traditional pickups and more practicality than sports cars.
With the growing global customer base, Tesla's charging network continues to expand. As of the first half of 2022, Tesla had over 36,000 Superchargers worldwide, forming the world's largest fast-charging network.
To build a complete sustainable energy system, Tesla has designed energy solutions comprising products such as Powerwall, Powerpack, and Solar Roof, enabling individuals, businesses, and grid systems to generate, store, and use clean energy as needed. In 2021, the electricity generated by Tesla's solar business exceeded the total electricity consumed by Tesla factories, related facilities, and global Tesla vehicle charging.
In 2010, Tesla went public on Nasdaq; in 2014, Tesla announced the opening of over 300 patents to the industry; in 2018, Tesla became the world's best-selling pure electric vehicle company; in 2021, Tesla became the sixth company globally to surpass a trillion-dollar market cap; in the same year, Tesla moved its headquarters to Austin, Texas.
In Musk's view, factories are an important product of Tesla, and manufacturing is a core competitiveness that is difficult to replicate. Currently, Tesla operates six major production bases: Fremont Factory, Gigafactory Nevada, Gigafactory New York, Gigafactory Shanghai, Gigafactory Berlin, and Gigafactory Texas. By June 2022, global cumulative deliveries surpassed 3 million vehicles. Tesla's rapid growth is closely linked to continuous manufacturing excellence.
Tesla has always been driven by technological innovation. At the 2019 Autonomy Day, Tesla unveiled its self-developed FSD chip; at the 2020 Battery Day, it released the 4680 battery; at the 2021 AI Day, Tesla introduced the D1 AI training chip and Dojo supercomputer for training massive autonomous driving data; at the second AI Day in 2022, Tesla's humanoid robot prototype made its debut, and the ExaPOD supercomputer with 1.1 EFLOPs of computing power is expected to be deployed in the first quarter of 2023.
This is only the beginning. While producing affordable electric vehicles, Tesla will also provide consumers with more energy and technology products, ultimately accelerating the widespread adoption of clean transportation and clean energy.
【About Tesla China】
In 2013, Tesla officially entered China. On January 7, 2019, construction of Gigafactory Shanghai began; on December 30, 2019, deliveries of the China-made Model 3 officially started. With joint efforts, Gigafactory Shanghai achieved construction, production, and delivery within the same year, showcasing "Shanghai Speed" and "Tesla Speed" to the world. In August 2022, the 1 millionth China-made Tesla rolled off the production line.
Gigafactory Shanghai is Tesla's first factory outside the United States and holds strategic importance for Tesla's expansion in China and globally. As Tesla's major export hub, Gigafactory Shanghai leverages China's robust supply chain and world-class "Intelligent Manufacturing" capabilities to produce high-quality smart electric vehicles Model 3 and Model Y, which are sold to Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other regions, receiving warm welcome and acclaim from overseas owners.
On October 25, 2021, Tesla's first overseas R&D center focused on vehicle development, the Shanghai R&D Innovation Center, was officially inaugurated. This center will conduct R&D on vehicles, charging equipment, and energy products, and will become a comprehensive R&D center comparable in scale to Tesla's North American R&D center. In the same year, the Shanghai Gigafactory Data Center was also established to store data generated from Tesla's business in China and customers' personal information.
Tesla China adheres to a direct-sales model, allowing customers to directly enjoy efficient, transparent, and convenient services throughout the entire product lifecycle. By establishing direct-sales channels such as experience stores, service centers, and delivery centers, Tesla ensures transparent and consistent pricing and service repair items, avoiding disparities between stores or vehicles, thereby reducing vehicle purchase costs, usage costs, and time costs for owners.
As of the end of September 2022, Tesla had opened over 290 experience stores and service centers, 21 delivery centers, and 24 direct-operated collision centers in mainland China. With the in-depth expansion of direct-sales channels, Tesla will use faster response and more efficient services to meet the needs of more owners.
Tesla continues to rapidly expand its charging business in China. In April 2014, the first Tesla Supercharger station in mainland China was established in Jinqiao, Shanghai, marking the beginning of Tesla's supercharging service for Chinese owners. In December 2019, the first Asia-Pacific V3 Supercharger was installed in Jinqiao, Shanghai, with a peak power of 250kW, enabling up to about 250 kilometers of range replenished in just 15 minutes.
As of the end of September 2022, Tesla had opened over 1,300 Supercharger stations and more than 9,300 Superchargers in mainland China, along with over 700 destination charging stations and over 1,800 destination charging piles, covering more than 380 cities and regions. Tesla's supercharging service, combined with home charging, destination charging, third-party charging, and portable mobile charging, provides a comprehensive and efficient charging solution. Additionally, Tesla offers Chinese consumers travel guides such as "Silk Road Supercharging Route," "Northwest Grand Loop Supercharging Route," "Aurora Trip Charging Route," and "Sichuan-Tibet Supercharging Route," ensuring a convenient and worry-free travel experience for Tesla owners across China.
Tesla China, from initially importing and selling electric vehicles, to achieving localized production at Gigafactory Shanghai, and then exporting "Intelligently Made in China" Teslas to Europe and Asia, has consistently invested in R&D and resources across products, services, and charging, committed to its mission of "accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy" and contributing to the early realization of the carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
