Hubei Provincial Building Science Research and Design Institute was established in 1954, formerly known as the Building Materials Testing Institute of the Central-South Construction Engineering Administration. It is a comprehensive research institution with complete supporting services for construction engineering, including building scientific research, building engineering design, engineering quality inspection and appraisal, structural reinforcement, calibration of engineering testing instruments and equipment, green building research and consulting, energy efficiency assessment, and construction drawing review. At present, it has three wholly-owned subsidiaries: Hubei Provincial Construction Engineering Quality Supervision and Inspection Testing Center, Hubei Provincial Green Building Technology Research and Development Center, and Hubei Jian'e Survey and Design Review Consulting Co., Ltd.
Since its establishment, the institute has completed more than 80 various scientific research projects and achieved more than 180 scientific research results, including 2 National Science and Technology Progress Awards, 5 ministerial-level awards, 5 provincial-level awards, and 15 municipal-level awards. It has obtained 29 intellectual property rights, including 1 invention patent, 9 utility model patents, and 19 software copyrights, and has presided over or participated in the compilation of more than 40 standards and specifications. Its high-tech subsidiary, Hubei Provincial Construction Engineering Quality Supervision and Inspection Testing Center, has testing/calibration/inspection capabilities covering 31 categories and 232 items. Many projects, such as large-scale building curtain wall testing, were the first to fill gaps in Central China. It is the leading unit in the province's construction testing industry and has successfully applied for competitive projects of the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department's special science and technology development program for four consecutive years, obtaining special development funds from the provincial science and technology department.
For many years, the institute has been committed to research in green building-related fields, actively carrying out a series of green building-related scientific research, consulting, and design services, including building energy efficiency, green building consulting evaluation and design, U.S. LEED certification, UK BREEAM certification, building energy efficiency assessment, energy auditing, construction of building energy consumption monitoring platforms, green building materials consulting and evaluation, ready-mixed concrete green production consulting and evaluation, green building post-evaluation and operation and maintenance, green renovation of existing buildings, green building technology research and consulting, and sponge city design consulting. It has long been in the first tier of green building service providers in the province and has achieved outstanding performance.
