Founded in 1973, the Metallurgical Automation Research and Design Institute is a large comprehensive research and development institution in China's industrial automation field. It is a science and technology enterprise with a high level of scientific and technological expertise and strong capabilities in comprehensive industrial automation technology R&D, product manufacturing, engineering design, and engineering contracting. It was formerly affiliated with the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, the Central Enterprise Work Commission, and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, and has now joined China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group.
The institute has more than 1,100 employees, of whom scientific and technological personnel account for 70%. There are 28 doctoral and master's supervisors, 150 personnel with master's degrees or above, and more than 70 experts including those receiving special government allowances, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, and those selected for the "New Century Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project".
