China National Pharmaceutical Industry Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "the Institute") is affiliated with China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation. It is mainly engaged in the research and evaluation of new drug varieties and new processes, drug production and sales, and postgraduate education in the pharmaceutical field.
For a long time, the Institute has adhered to the philosophy and characteristics of research being close to, serving, and rooted in industry. With the goal of developing innovative drugs for major diseases and key technologies for pharmaceutical manufacturing and industrialization, and guided by the needs of enterprises and the market, it provides numerous drug varieties and process technologies to pharmaceutical enterprises nationwide.
The Institute has one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 57 staff with senior professional titles; historically, it has had 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 86 experts who have received the special government allowance of the State Council. The Institute is one of the first batch of first-level discipline units for pharmaceutical graduate education approved by the State Council, and has 9 master's programs, 7 doctoral programs, and 1 postdoctoral research station. Since 2000, it has co-founded the School of Pharmacy of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Currently, there are 194 master's students, 52 joint master's students, 54 doctoral students, and 68 doctoral students jointly trained with Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The Institute covers nine disciplinary directions throughout the entire drug research and innovation chain, from new drug creation to process development, from active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) research to novel formulation research, and from platform support for new drug development to information services for the pharmaceutical industry. Since its establishment, it has obtained over 1,200 authorized patents and owns over 800 valid patents. A total of over 4,000 research achievements have been industrialized in 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions nationwide, and multiple achievements have won national, provincial, and ministerial awards. It has made tremendous contributions to breaking the monopoly of foreign products, enhancing the development level of China's pharmaceutical industry, and addressing the livelihood issues of difficult access to medical care and expensive drugs in China.
