East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences

The East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, is a comprehensive fishery research institution directly under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and serves as the technical support unit for fishery resource conservation and marine ranching construction in the East China Sea region. With the mission of "managing the ocean and safeguarding the blue granary," the institute focuses on fishery resources and ecological environment, fishery engineering and equipment, aquaculture and genetic breeding, and aquatic product processing and quality safety, conducting applied basic research, technical breakthroughs, and result commercialization. Relying on platforms such as the Key Laboratory of East China Sea Fishery Resources Development and Utilization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Key Laboratory of Pelagic Fishery Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the institute has achieved multiple breakthroughs in fishery resource assessment in the East China Sea, development of deep-sea aquaculture facilities, and monitoring of the effectiveness of the fishing ban in the Yangtze River Estuary, with several technologies incorporated into national industry standards. The institute houses a research team led by scientists appointed to national modern agricultural industry technology system posts and Shanghai-level talents, undertaking major projects such as the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Through activities like "fishery technology outreach to villages" and "fishermen skills training," the institute promotes green fishery development and increased income for fishermen. Additionally, the institute actively participates in global ocean governance, conducting international cooperation such as Antarctic krill resource surveys and high-seas fishery resource conservation, contributing to China's goal of building a maritime power.
