Beijing Mechanical & Electrical Research Institute was established in 1956, originally under the Ministry of Machine-Building Industry, and served as the technical authority for the forging, heat treatment, and mold industries in China's machinery sector. In July 1999, along with the General Machinery Research Institute, it was transformed into a central science and technology enterprise. The institute primarily engages in research and development in metal plastic forming technology and equipment, metal heat treatment technology and equipment, vacuum heat treatment technology and equipment, mold technology, automotive interior trim forming technology and equipment, fine blanking technology and equipment, metal superplasticity technology, industrial control and automation integrated systems, and other multi-disciplinary fields. The institute currently has over 300 employees, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, six recipients of special government allowances, and 36 research-level senior engineers. The secretariats of the Plastic Engineering Society of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the Heat Treatment Society of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the China Heat Treatment Association, the China Die & Mould Industry Association, the National Forging Standardization Technical Committee, and the National Heat Treatment Standardization Technical Committee are all housed at the institute. The journals 'Transactions of Materials and Heat Treatment', 'Heat Treatment of Metals', 'Journal of Plasticity Engineering', and 'Forging & Stamping Technology' are published and distributed domestically and internationally. Over the years, with government support, the institute has established several national-level research and development institutions, such as the 'National Engineering Research Center for Precision Forming' established by the National Development and Reform Commission, the 'Fine Blanking Technology Development Service Center' aided by the United Nations, and the 'Heat Treatment Productivity Promotion Center' and 'Fuzzy Control Technology Productivity Promotion Center' established by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The institute has formed comprehensive advantages in related technical fields and has achieved a number of results reaching internationally advanced levels, with nearly 200 achievements receiving national or provincial/ministerial awards. Through further development, transformation, and integration of research achievements, a batch of near-net-shape forming and heat treatment technologies, equipment, and system integration engineering projects with independent intellectual property rights have been applied in hundreds of large enterprises, achieving synchronized development of process and equipment technology, and steady improvement in economic scale and benefits. The institute's products, such as roll forging machines, cross wedge rolling machines, clutch-type screw presses, forging manipulators, robots, vacuum furnaces, fine blanking dies, interior trim forming molds, heat treatment production lines, and forging production lines, enjoy a high reputation domestically, and some products are exported to the United States, Denmark, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Myanmar, Syria, Vietnam, and other countries. The institute consistently values international exchange and cooperation, having established exchange and cooperation relationships with internationally renowned universities, research institutes, and enterprises in more than 30 countries and regions, completing dozens of intergovernmental international cooperation research projects and two EU Fifth Framework projects. Adhering to the business philosophy of 'process first, forging high-quality products, harmonious development, and integrated innovation', and with the mission of enabling customers to achieve safe, efficient, agile, and green manufacturing, the institute continuously strengthens its integrated system and comprehensive advantages in the leading business areas of forging and heat treatment, emphasizing process-led, equipment-based, service-supported approaches, striving to build itself into the national team for technological innovation in forging and heat treatment in China and the best provider of overall solutions for enterprise technological upgrades.
