格瑞夫始创于1877年，在美国俄亥俄州的克利夫兰创立，主要生产木制包装容器。1988年格瑞夫通过收购美国本土企业实耐格（Sonoco）的工业包装业务，成为北美工业包装行业的*。20世纪后半期，格瑞夫逐渐成长为一家提供纤维桶、钢桶、塑料桶、瓦楞纸箱和IBC等多种工业包装形式的公司。1926年，格瑞夫在纳斯达克上市。1993在中国区投资设厂。2001年格瑞夫收购了荷兰的凡雷尔（Van Leer Industrial），以此奠定了其在全球的领先地位。2002年格瑞夫加入纽约股票交易市场，如今公司股票以GEF和GEF.B代码进行交易。2006年，格瑞夫收购了北美*大的提供润滑油和化学品调配及灌装业务的企业Delta公司，标志着格瑞夫从此进入化学灌装领域。
