Chongqing Foreign Trade Import Co., Ltd. is a large state-owned professional foreign trade enterprise under Chongqing Foreign Economy and Trade (Group) Co., Ltd. It was established in February 1982 (formerly Chongqing Foreign Trade Import Company) and is one of the earliest local professional foreign trade companies established since Chongqing became a separately listed municipality directly under the Central Government. In 1983, the company obtained the import and export operation right approved by the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade of the People's Republic of China, with a registered capital of RMB 300 million. In 2002, it passed the ISO9001:2000 quality management system certification for professional import and export trade services. It has 3 wholly-owned subsidiaries respectively engaged in logistics, foreign trade import and export, and cross-border e-commerce, as well as 1 controlling subsidiary. Its business scope mainly includes wholesale and retail of prepackaged food, bulk food, and dairy products; wholesale and retail of Class II and Class III medical devices; import and export of other goods and technologies besides export commodities uniformly operated by the state and import commodities subject to designated company operation; processing with imported materials and "three processing and one compensation" business; counter trade and entrepot trade; sales of primary agricultural products, automobiles, auto parts, mineral products, metal materials (excluding rare and precious metals), chemical fertilizers, aircraft parts, civil helicopters, instruments and meters, coal, coke; recycling and sales of scrap metal, waste papermaking raw materials, waste municipal public facilities, waste light chemical raw materials, and discarded electronic and electromechanical equipment, etc. Established in the course of reform and opening up, since the 1980s the company has undertaken import and export business such as the procurement of imported technologies, equipment, instruments, and raw materials in the process of technological transformation and service upgrading for large and medium-sized enterprises and institutions, industrial and mining enterprises, scientific research institutions, and medical institutions in the region.
