PUTH consistently adheres to a patient-centered approach, implementing multiple measures to continuously improve the medical experience. The hospital strengthens MDT (multidisciplinary team) and comprehensive management of rare diseases, enhancing the capacity to treat complex and critical conditions. Minimally invasive surgeries, day surgeries, and weekend/evening outpatient services benefit more patients, and the pain-free hospital initiative is steadily advancing. The outpatient "one-stop" appointment platform is continuously optimized, with special medical and international medical services offering multi-level options. For inpatient services, the process of "direct admission to wards" is gradually promoted, a pilot no-escort care ward has been launched, and a "discharge without worries" project has been introduced. The smart hospital initiative brings patients a more convenient and efficient medical experience. The internet hospital has launched an "intelligent diagnosis agent" that integrates consultation, triage, registration, and diagnosis via intelligent linkage. The family doctor accompaniment diagnosis service, known as "village clinics," covers 18 communities in Yanqing, and the "cloud clinic" for direct community referral connects 15 communities in Haidian. In 2025, the internet hospital completed 250,000 consultations and added 780,000 new registered users. A new-generation domestic AI PACS system has been fully launched, greatly improving service efficiency.
As a clinical medical school of Peking University, the hospital fulfills the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, adheres to a student-centered educational philosophy, prioritizes moral education, and promotes comprehensive development. The hospital has established an education and teaching center to deepen reforms in medical education and teaching. PUTH places great emphasis on undergraduate education; relevant courses have been selected as high-quality undergraduate courses at Beijing universities. Its teaching achievements won the first prize of the 2022 National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education (undergraduate). The Neurology team received the national second prize in the University Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition. Each year, the hospital is responsible for the teaching and training management of nearly 700 undergraduates, over 800 postgraduates, nearly 600 residents in standardized training, and nearly 2,000 visiting physicians/nurses. It manages undergraduate medical education mainly for the eight-year clinical medicine program, covering multiple disciplines. The hospital offers 31 doctoral training programs and 33 master's training programs, with 20 national resident standardized training bases, 3 national key resident standardized training bases, and 3 national bases for specialist physician standardized training designated by the National Health Commission.
PUTH consistently adheres to a clinical-problem-oriented approach to scientific and technological innovation, ranking first among Beijing municipal hospitals for many consecutive years in the number of projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In recent years, PUTH has implemented several major initiatives to stimulate innovation in medical science and technology and promote the translation of innovations. In 2019, it established the Medical Innovation Research Institute and led the formation of the Beijing Xueyuan Road Clinical Medicine Collaborative Innovation Alliance. In 2021, it co-built with Haidian District a proof-of-concept center based on medical institutions. In 2024, the PUTH Science and Technology Association was established, and the Industrial Development Research Institute (PUTH) was officially inaugurated. The hospital actively explores innovative management models, building a new model of hospital-university collaboration, and has established a total of 25 hospital-enterprise joint R&D centers.
In terms of research platform construction, PUTH currently holds 3 Ministry of Education innovation teams: Orthopedics, Institute of Sports Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology; 3 national research platforms: the National Key Laboratory of Female Fertility Promotion, the National Key Laboratory of Vascular Homeostasis and Remodeling, and the National Clinical Research Center for Women's Health and Obstetric and Gynecologic Diseases; and 16 provincial and ministerial research platforms. Additionally, it has 2 demonstration centers for clinical application of innovative drugs and devices.
PUTH explores new pathways for the downward flow of high-quality medical resources and has consistently ranked among the top in the comprehensive evaluation of medical consortia in Beijing. As part of the Haidian Central-Eastern Comprehensive Medical Consortium and 15 cross-regional specialty consortia, it drives improvements in regional medical service capacity. The hospital's Second Outpatient Department, Central Party School Campus, Airport Campus, North Campus, and Haidian North Campus are under vertical management and homogeneous management. PUTH manages two district-level hospitals in Haidian and Yanqing, supporting the development of the capital's medical and health sector; it manages the Yan'an Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in support of the old revolutionary base areas; and it has built two national regional medical centers—the PUTH Chongli Campus and the PUTH Qinhuangdao Hospital—to implement the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy.
PUTH consistently upholds the public welfare nature of public hospitals, fulfilling its responsibility as a "national team" to protect people's lives and health.
