Chongqing Airport Group Co., Ltd. was established on November 26, 2003 on the basis of the former Chongqing Municipal Administration of Civil Aviation in accordance with the relevant spirit of the State Council on the reform of the civil aviation system, and joined the Capital Airports Holding Company on April 18, 2004. Its main responsibility is to operate and manage Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is one of the regional hubs of China's civil aviation. It is located in the northeastern part of Chongqing, 19 kilometers from the city center. It was completed and put into use on January 22, 1990, with a flight zone rating of 4E. At present, Chongqing Airport has two runways (among them: * runway is 3,200 meters long, and the second runway is 3,600 meters long); two terminal buildings with a total area of 200,000 square meters (including: the international terminal of 20,000 square meters and the domestic terminal of 180,000 square meters); an apron of 760,000 square meters, 89 parking stands, and a cargo warehouse of 90,000 square meters. It was the first in the western region to achieve dual-runway and dual-terminal operation, can meet the needs of direct flights to Europe and the United States by large passenger and cargo aircraft such as Boeing 747-400, and can support annual passenger throughput of 30 million person-times, cargo and mail throughput of 550,000 tons, and 260,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings.

In recent years, the transport production of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has grown rapidly, the route network has become increasingly complete, and the airport's accessibility has been greatly improved. At present, Chongqing Airport has reached 120 cities, including 83 domestic cities, with full coverage of all provincial capitals and major tourist cities across the country, and 37 international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan destinations, mainly connecting Southeast Asia, South Asia, Japan and South Korea, Europe and North America. At present, Chongqing Airport has 18 international (regional) cargo routes and 22 destination cities, basically building a relatively complete cargo route network from Chongqing to Europe, North America, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and other places, which has played a positive role in promoting the adjustment of Chongqing's industrial structure and economic and social development.

In 2006, Chongqing Airport's passenger throughput exceeded 8 million person-times, entering the ranks of China's top 10 airports. In 2007, passenger throughput exceeded 10 million, and in 2009, passenger throughput exceeded 14 million person-times, firmly ranking among China's top ten airports and becoming one of the world's top 100 airports. In 2012, passenger throughput exceeded the 20 million mark, successfully entering a new level of growth. At the same time, international (regional) passenger and cargo growth was rapid. In 2012, international (regional) passenger throughput reached 850,000 person-times, and international (regional) cargo reached 85,000 tons.

In order to meet the needs of rapidly developing air transport production, Chongqing Airport launched the East Terminal Area and Third Runway Construction Project in 2009. This project is a key construction project of the Civil Aviation Administration of China and Chongqing Municipality during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period. The main construction contents include: building a new 500,000-square-meter T3A terminal; building a new 300,000-square-meter comprehensive transportation hub in front of the terminal integrating intercity railways, subways, long-distance transfer centers, and parking buildings; building a new 3,800-meter 4F runway that can accommodate A380 takeoffs and landings; and building a new 800,000-square-meter apron with 94 additional parking stands. The project will be completed and put into use by the end of 2015, and will meet the transport needs of annual passenger throughput of 45 million person-times, cargo and mail throughput of 1.1 million tons, and 373,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings.
