Shenhua Group Co., Ltd. is the world's largest coal production and sales enterprise, a super-large central enterprise directly under the central government, integrating coal, railway, port, electricity, oil and chemical industries. In 2013, its operating revenue was 363.6 billion yuan, with profits of nearly 80 billion yuan. Shenhua Coal-to-Liquid and Chemical Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shenhua Group, responsible for coal-to-liquid and coal chemical businesses. Under this company, there are 12 branches, including the Xinjiang Coal Chemical Branch. For years, Shenhua Group has been leading the development direction of China's coal chemical industry. The world's first direct coal liquefaction plant using Shenhua's proprietary intellectual property rights was successfully operated. The world's first and largest coal-to-olefins project achieved successful one-time startup and commercial operation. Additionally, the construction and commissioning of Asia's first CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) demonstration project have solidified China's leading position in the coal chemical field.
Shenhua Xinjiang 680,000 tons/year coal-based new materials project is another super-large new coal chemical project constructed by the Coal-to-Liquid and Chemical Co., Ltd. It was approved by the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Development and Reform Commission in January 2012. This project is a strategic measure by Shenhua Group to implement the spirit of the Central Xinjiang Work Conference, strengthen ethnic unity, achieve leapfrog development and long-term stability in border areas, and cultivate new economic growth points. Located in Midong District, Urumqi, the project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2015, with good economic benefits.
