Tsinghua Tongheng

Beijing Tsinghua Tongheng Urban Planning & Design Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Tsinghua Tongheng") is a wholly state-owned enterprise affiliated with Tsinghua University. It is a member enterprise under Tsinghua Holdings, primarily engaged in urban-rural planning and design as well as research consulting. It is also an important component of the China New-Type Urbanization Research Institute of Tsinghua University, jointly initiated by the National Development and Reform Commission and Tsinghua University. Tsinghua Tongheng was established in 1993 (originally as Beijing Tsinghua Urban Planning and Design Institute) and was transformed from an wholly state-owned enterprise into a limited liability company in August 2012. After the restructuring, it was wholly transferred to Tsinghua Holdings Co., Ltd.
Tsinghua Tongheng holds the Class A qualification for urban-rural planning compilation, Class A qualification for national tourism planning and design, Class A qualification for cultural relics protection engineering survey and design, Class B qualification for landscape architecture engineering design, Class A qualification for building industry (architecture) specialty, and Class B qualification for land planning.
Rooted in the academic research environment of Tsinghua University and leveraging its comprehensive disciplines and industrial advantages, Tsinghua Tongheng has consistently adhered to the development philosophy of "integration of production, education, and research," combining urban-rural planning engineering practice with scientific research and education. It actively expands research fields related to urban-rural planning and has gradually developed its comprehensive strengths, core businesses, and service features through more than a decade of enterprise development. Tsinghua Tongheng persists in the professional institute development framework and has grown to include over 40 business departments covering five major planning and design directions: (1) urban-rural planning; (2) landscape architecture; (3) municipal and transportation; (4) technology and media; (5) architectural design.
As of the end of 2016, the institute has over 1000 employees, with 55% of professional and technical personnel holding master's degrees or above, 20% holding registered professional qualifications, and over 30% holding intermediate or senior technical titles. Most of the technical backbone graduated from first-class institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Tongji University, Nanjing University, and Harbin Institute of Technology.
In specific engineering practices, Tsinghua Tongheng has developed a distinctive working method: on the platform of "Tsinghua Tongheng," fully integrating the technical resources of relevant professional institutes within the institute based on the specific needs of actual projects, and further leveraging the technical advantages of urban planning-related disciplines and specialties from Tsinghua University and other research institutions in Beijing to form comprehensive technical teams composed of multidisciplinary experts in planning, economics, sociology, history, geography, ecology, landscape, energy, transportation, logistics, architecture, etc. It also works closely with local sibling design units to provide clients with comprehensive technical solutions encompassing planning + design + services.
