The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University

The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University is a directly affiliated hospital of Southern Medical University (formerly the Military Medical University), a national key medical university. It is a comprehensive tertiary first-class hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, emergency care, prevention, and healthcare. Located in Conghua District, Guangzhou, the hospital is a garden-style medical facility. Established in 1954, the hospital was fully transferred to Southern Medical University in 2013 and is currently the largest public hospital in Conghua District with the strongest overall strength. The hospital is committed to building a regional medical center in the northern part of Guangzhou and creating a hospital favored by the public.
The hospital covers an area of nearly 200 mu, with 1,500 approved beds, plus an additional 500 beds specifically approved for medical and elderly care integration. Four departments, including general surgery, orthopedics, pediatric intensive care unit, and infectious diseases, have been rated as Guangdong Provincial Clinical Key Specialty Construction Projects, covering nine clinical departments. The hospital currently has more than 1,800 employees, including nearly 200 with senior professional titles and over 350 with master's or doctoral degrees. The annual outpatient volume reaches nearly 1.5 million visits, and inpatient visits exceed 50,000. The hospital is well-equipped with large-scale medical devices, including high-precision diagnostic and treatment equipment such as medical electronic linear accelerators (LA) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT-CT), which provide important guarantees for improving clinical diagnosis and treatment levels and resident physician training. The hospital is a national third batch of resident standardized training bases (general practice, radiology); the outpatient comprehensive medical area of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University, a key construction project of Guangdong Province, will be completed and put into use this year.
In 2023, the hospital has obtained 6 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has published nearly 100 SCI papers in the past two years. The hospital's central laboratory currently has multiple functional laboratories, including molecular biology laboratory, flow cytometry room, laser confocal microscopy room, materials room, and biobank, enabling molecular biology, materials science, cell biology, and immunology experiments, and can also share the university's scientific research platform.
