CJ CGV is a chain cinema operator with a large number of screens in Asia. Since opening its first multiplex in Seoul, South Korea, in 1998, after years of development, it now operates over 100 CGV cinemas with nearly 1,000 screens across Asia and North America. It has become a leading brand in South Korea and Vietnam, capturing 48% and 54% of the local box office market share, respectively. CGV cinemas have been praised by American media as representatives of future cinema trends.
In 2006, the opening of CGV Shanghai Daning Cinema marked the beginning of CGV's business development in China.
In 2010, the CGV flagship store near the Bird's Nest in Beijing became the first cinema in China to feature a 4DX hall.
In 2012, the CGV cinema opened on Zhongjie Street in Shenyang, featuring the first STARIUM hall in the country.

By the end of 2022, over 140 CGV cinemas had been established in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Wuhan, Shenyang, Fushun, and Panjin in China, with more cinemas under active construction in several other cities.
