Basic Introduction
Wuhan Institute of Design and Sciences was established in 2004 and is a private regular undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. In 2012, it was approved as a bachelor's degree-granting institution. In 2015, it was converted into an independently established private regular undergraduate university. In 2024, it passed the Ministry of Education's qualification assessment for undergraduate teaching work.
The school currently has 31 undergraduate majors, covering 7 major disciplines including art studies, engineering, literature, economics, management, agriculture, and medicine. It has 10 secondary teaching units, namely "Nine Colleges and One Department", with nearly 12,000 students of various types enrolled.
School conditions: The campus covers an area of 753.05 mu. The main campus is located by the beautiful Tangxun Lake and was planned and designed by famous Chinese and foreign artists. The campus combines the charm of Eastern and Western gardens, and its architecture integrates modern style with classical temperament. The school has complete teaching and living facilities, including modern teaching buildings, laboratory buildings, a library, an art museum, a ceramics museum, a gymnasium, a college student cultural and sports activity center, student apartments, cafeterias and supermarkets, etc., with a total building area of 250,000 square meters. The school has 7 experimental centers, including an advanced film and television media training center, an environmental art design center, an art design experiment center, a food and biology experimental teaching center, and a computer experimental teaching center, as well as more than 200 professional experimental and practical training rooms such as a motion capture laboratory, woodworking laboratory, metal craft laboratory, 3D printing laboratory, clay model laboratory, jewelry craft laboratory, animation studio, digital imaging studio, stop-motion animation studio, and black box theater. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is nearly 50 million yuan, and the library has more than 840,000 paper books.
Faculty: The school's faculty is highly qualified and reasonably structured. There are currently 434 full-time teachers, among whom those with associate senior titles or above account for 32.03%, and those with postgraduate degrees or above account for 82.25%; there are 162 externally hired teachers and 188 administrative management personnel. The school sets up a chief professor position for each major to grasp the direction of major development and take full responsibility for major construction. The school implements a lecture professor system, flexibly introducing high-level talents urgently needed for development from home and abroad. It invited Mr. Jackie Chan to serve as the dean of the school's Jackie Chan Film and Television Media College, and hired a group of well-known public figures and expert professors such as Feng Xiaogang, Zhang Guoli, and Bao Manzhu as visiting professors for majors. Teachers have achieved fruitful results in teaching and research. In the past three years, teachers have published more than 600 papers independently or as corresponding authors, including more than 200 in core journals.
