Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (GSI) is an enterprise under China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), tracing its origins back to the Guangzhou Shipyard established in 1954, with roots in the 'Guangnan Dockyard' founded by overseas Chinese businessman Tan Liting in 1914. It was listed in Hong Kong and Shanghai in 1993, becoming the first listed company in China with shipbuilding as its main business. In 2014, it acquired Guangzhou CSSC Longxue Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and in 2018, it merged and integrated Guangzhou CSSC Wenchong Shipyard Co., Ltd., relocating from Liwan District to Nansha District, Guangzhou. Now with two major production bases in Nansha and Zhongshan, located at the geographical and geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it has become the most comprehensive and largest modern comprehensive shipbuilding enterprise in South China. GSI is a national high-tech enterprise, possessing a nationally recognized enterprise technology center and the first high-end marine science and technology research institute in South China, Guangdong GSI Marine Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., with over a thousand technical staff. It enjoys self-operated import and export rights and is the largest and strongest modern comprehensive shipbuilding and repair support base in South China, capable of R&D, design, construction, repair, and conversion of various types of vessels that meet the requirements of major classification societies worldwide. GSI has mastered core technologies in high-tech and high-value-added ship types, including full-series liquid cargo carriers, bulk carriers, container ships, car carriers, Ro-Pax ships, semi-submersible vessels, polar icebreakers, scientific research vessels, and official vessels. Currently, it leads in construction records and market share for liquid cargo carriers, semi-submersible vessels, high-end Ro-Pax ships, and polar icebreakers.
