Shenzhen Municipal Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shenzhen Municipal Design Institute") was founded in 1984 and is affiliated with Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. It is a national high-tech enterprise with strong technical strength, comprehensive professional capabilities, and a well-structured workforce. It holds Grade A design qualifications for the entire municipal industry, rail transit, highway engineering, architectural engineering, urban planning, comprehensive engineering investigation, engineering consulting, and landscape architecture, as well as Class I construction drawing review qualification and Grade A supervision qualification. It has a "National Postdoctoral Research Workstation", an "Engineering Practice Education Center", and an "International Low-Carbon Municipal Infrastructure Research Center", with more than 300 senior professional title employees and over 40 professor-level senior engineers, Ph.D.s, and postdoctoral researchers.
Its business covers municipal roads, bridges, rail transit, municipal water supply and drainage, sewage treatment, environmental sanitation and environmental impact assessment, disaster prevention and mitigation, engineering investigation and testing, architectural planning, landscape architecture, engineering consulting, and other fields. It is particularly at the forefront of the industry in the research, promotion, and application of smart cities, eco-cities, sponge cities, integrated utility tunnels, trams, and BIM technology.

It has designed outstanding projects such as Shenzhen Rainbow Bridge, Shennan Boulevard, Dongguan Avenue, the comprehensive renovation project of the Shenzhen Luohu Port/Railway Station area, and the Shenzhen Futian Comprehensive Transportation Hub Transfer Center. It has won more than 200 excellent design awards at international, national, ministerial, provincial, and municipal levels, including the "Urban Land Institute Asia Pacific Excellence Award", the "National Excellent Engineering Investigation and Design Award", and the "Shenzhen Excellent Design Golden Bull Award". Adhering to innovation-driven development, it has successively won nearly 30 science and technology progress awards, including the "National Science and Technology Progress Award", the "Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award of the Ministry of Construction", the "Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award", and the "Shenzhen Science and Technology Progress Award"; and has more than 100 independent intellectual property rights, including domestic and foreign invention patents and utility model patents.
