Guangzhou Metro Design & Research Institute Joint-Stock Co., Ltd. was established in June 1993. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guangzhou Metro Group, holding Class A qualifications in integrated engineering design, integrated engineering survey, and urban-rural planning compilation. Its business scope covers planning consultation, survey and design, and engineering general contracting for urban rail transit, municipal, and architectural projects. Leveraging the rich resources of Guangzhou Metro Group in construction, operation, and comprehensive development, it leads the industry in engineering achievements and design experience, and is one of the strongest enterprises in comprehensive urban rail transit design in China. It currently has over 1,300 professional and technical talents, with business spanning 35 cities including Guangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Wuhan, Shenzhen, and Xiamen, as well as overseas markets. It has established business offices in more than 20 cities, capable of providing efficient and convenient services to clients. As of June 2019, it has undertaken overall general contracting design projects for 65 urban rail transit lines nationwide, covering various types such as metro, light rail, intercity rail transit, modern trams, automated guideway transit, and medium-low speed maglev, with an operating mileage exceeding 500 kilometers. It has designed more than 500 stations and over 500 kilometers of tunnels using various construction methods, and completed numerous network planning, underground space development, podium property, and transportation hub projects in multiple cities, providing comprehensive and systematic urban transportation solutions globally. In the fields of urban rail transit, comprehensive transportation hubs, and podium property development, it possesses leading design technology and scientific research achievements. It has completed the survey and design of China's first metro line with a maximum speed of 120 km/h, the first metro line using linear motor traction, the first intercity metro line, the first driverless automated people mover line, the first modern tram line powered by supercapacitors, the first fully underground metropolitan express line with a speed of 160 km/h achieving metro service levels, and the first super high-rise metro podium urban complex. It has led or participated in the compilation of numerous national and industry technical specifications, including the "Metro Design Code," "Technical Code for Safety Protection of Urban Rail Transit Tunnel Structures," and "Code for Design of Linear Motor Rail Transit." It has won over 500 awards including the National Science and Technology Progress Award, National Environmental Engineering Award, and National Quality Engineering Award, and holds more than 200 patents. It is recognized as the most innovative, design-vibrant, and value-added high-tech enterprise in the industry.
