Since its inception, the Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been a pioneer in China's microelectronics technology innovation and an engine for industrial development. After more than 60 years of evolution, IMECAS has become the most comprehensive integrated research and development institution in the field of microelectronics in China, serving as the leading organization for forward-looking R&D in integrated circuit equipment and processes under key national science and technology projects, the host unit for the School of Microelectronics at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (a national model school of microelectronics), and the preparatory support unit for the Innovation Academy for Integrated Circuits of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The institute currently houses 2 key laboratories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences dedicated to fundamental research (the Key Laboratory of Microelectronic Devices and Integrated Technology and the Key Laboratory of Silicon Device Technology), 5 R&D centers for industrial services (the EDA Center, the Research and Development Center for Integrated Circuit Pilot Technology, the Research and Development Center for System Packaging and Integration, the Zhongke Xinxin Research and Development Center for 3D Memory, and the General Department for Lithography Technology), 7 R&D centers for industry applications (the Research and Development Center for Communication and Information Engineering, the Research and Development Center for New Energy Vehicle Electronics, the Research and Development Center for Health Electronics, the Research and Development Center for Intelligent Perception, the Research and Development Center for Intelligent Manufacturing Electronics, the Research and Development Center for Intelligent Electronic Systems, and the Research Center for Electromagnetic Information Intelligent Applications), and 4 R&D centers for core products (the Research and Development Center for Silicon Devices and Integration, the Research and Development Center for High-Frequency and High-Voltage Devices and Integration, the Research and Development Center for Microelectronic Instrumentation and Equipment, and the Research and Development Center for Optoelectronic Technology). As of now, the institute has a total staff of over 1,000, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, and 4 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Among them are 150 research professors and senior engineering technicians and 343 associate research professors and senior engineering technicians. IMECAS adheres to an open-door research policy, following a cooperation strategy of 'enterprise-oriented, market-driven, and industry-academia-research-application integration.' It has established strategic partnerships with Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and other universities, as well as with companies such as Wuhan Xinxin, Shanghai Huali, China Resources Microelectronics, and North Microelectronics.
