Daping Hospital

The institute was formed by the merger of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University (externally known as Daping Hospital) and the Field Surgery Research Institute. Located in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, it sits on the ancient Fotu Pass surrounded by two rivers, with the Yangtze River to the south and the Jialing River to the north, where mountains and waters reflect each other. It is a large comprehensive medical and health institution of the entire army integrating medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research. It is one of the first batch of Grade III Level A hospitals in the country, a designated healthcare hospital for central leaders visiting Chongqing, and one of the first batch of foreign-related designated hospitals and medical insurance designated hospitals in Chongqing. The institute covers a total area of nearly 200,000 square meters, with a total building area of more than 360,000 square meters. Discipline Construction The institute has a complete range of disciplines and specialties, and all tertiary specialties of surgery are national key disciplines. It currently has 8 national key disciplines: Field Surgery, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Urology, Cardiovascular Internal Medicine, and Respiratory Internal Medicine; 2 national key cultivation disciplines, Ophthalmology and Gastroenterology, and the "2110" key construction discipline (Field Surgery). It has the Army War Trauma Specialist Center, the Army Thoracic Surgery Specialist Center, and the Army Traffic Medicine Research Institute; Hypertension and Metabolic Disease, Glaucoma, Inner Ear Disease, and Constipation are Army Special Disease Centers; Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Urology are Army Centers for Healthy Birth and Childcare. War Trauma Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Biomedical Engineering, and Tumor Therapeutics are Chongqing key disciplines. The Hypertension Research Institute, Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Research Institute, Traffic Medicine Research Institute, Trauma Healing and Tissue Engineering Research Institute, Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Research Institute, and Biomedical Engineering Research Institute are Chongqing research institutes. Dermatology is the Chongqing University Skin Tissue Engineering Research Center. Teaching and Scientific Research All clinical disciplines and the first-level discipline of Biomedical Engineering in the institute are authorized points for doctoral and master's degrees. It has a clinical medicine postdoctoral scientific research mobile station, undertakes teaching tasks for 5 levels and 13 specialties including postdoctoral, doctoral, master's, undergraduate, and junior college, trains more than 1,800 trainees of various types annually, and enrolls more than 500 visiting scholars annually. It has built clinical demonstration, surgical recording and remote teaching systems, and a clinical skills training center. "Surgery and Field Surgery" is a national excellent course; "Research and Practice on Creating a Modern Military Medical Discipline System to Train New Military Medical Talents" won the first prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award; it is a national standardized training base for resident physicians, a national Ministry of Health endoscopy diagnosis and treatment training base, a national Ministry of Health interventional diagnosis and treatment training base, a national Ministry of Health peritoneal dialysis training base, as well as a Chongqing standardized training base for clinical pharmacists and a Chinese Red Cross Foundation rural doctor training base... The institute has good scientific research conditions and is a national drug clinical research base. It possesses the first national key laboratory of the entire army—the State Key Laboratory of Trauma, Burns and Combined Injury, the Army "Top Priority" construction laboratory—the Field Trauma Basic Research Laboratory, and the Army Key Laboratory—the Traffic Medicine Laboratory. The Hypertension Laboratory, Trauma Basic Laboratory, Traffic Medicine Laboratory, and Vehicle Biosafety Collision Laboratory are Chongqing key laboratories. It has undertaken major scientific research projects represented by national "973", "863", and National Natural Science Foundation key projects, with a total of more than 660 projects. It has successively won more than 150 awards at or above the second prize at the provincial and ministerial levels, including 1 first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award, 7 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 24 first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels, and 118 second prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels. In the past five years, it has published more than 650 high-quality papers in SCI and EI journals; more than 60 SCI papers with an impact factor above 5; and 7 high-quality papers selected for F1000. In 2014, it published 202 SCI papers, including 20 with an impact factor above 5 and 3 above 10. It successfully published papers in the three top journals Cell, Nature, and Science. During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", it obtained more than 400 national patents, and in 2014 realized a transformation of scientific and technological achievements worth 10 million yuan. It has built the earliest large centralized intensive care unit in the country and the largest neonatal intensive care unit in the southwest region; the acute and critical care treatment system built by departments such as ICU, CCU, NICU, and Blood Purification Dialysis Center is leading; it took the lead in carrying out major organ transplants such as heart, liver, lung, and kidney in China, pediatric heart transplantation filled a domestic gap, and lung transplantation survival time ranks second in China; it took the lead in carrying out new technologies such as neutron knife treatment for cervical cancer, decalcified bone transplantation for bone defects and nonunion, and free jejunum substitution for esophagectomy; it carried out rare domestic surgeries such as colon reconstruction of the esophagus, in vivo detonator removal, and macroglossia; it has the fourth standardized "one-stop hybrid surgery" platform in the country, and more than 20 technologies including hybrid surgery techniques, cerebrovascular disease intervention, minimally invasive surgery of the heart, lung, esophagus, liver, and intestine, surgical treatment of constipation, and diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, Meniere's disease, and metabolic syndrome have reached the leading level. It has four major technical training bases: the Ministry of Health Cardiovascular Disease Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment Base, the Ministry of Health Stroke Screening and Prevention Base, the Ministry of Health Endoscopy Diagnosis and Treatment Training Base, and the Ministry of Health Peritoneal Dialysis Training Demonstration Center. The medical characteristics with severe trauma treatment as the brand are distinctive. The trauma medicine specialty of our hospital has received rolling funding from 2 "973" projects. The Trauma, Burns and Combined Injury Laboratory is a national key laboratory. It has edited and published multiple textbooks or monographs such as "Practical Trauma Treatment", "Multiple Injury Treatment", and "Disaster Medicine". The summarized theories and techniques for severe war trauma treatment and strategies and techniques for mass casualty treatment are renowned domestically. The Trauma Specialty Hospital is the first specialty hospital among university-affiliated hospitals in China and the only medical specialty center of the entire army. It has constructed a holistic treatment model for the discipline team, formulated an in-hospital emergency treatment process for severe trauma, and achieved integrated, full-process emergency treatment of severe trauma. The summarized new theories and technologies such as restrictive resuscitation and concise emergency surgery for damage control have significantly shortened the time to definitive surgery for severe trauma patients and improved treatment outcomes.
