China Academy of Building Research

The China Academy of Building Research was established in 1953, originally the largest comprehensive scientific research institution directly under the Ministry of Construction. In October 2000, it was transformed into a technology-oriented central enterprise and is now under the administration of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. With building engineering as its main research subject, the China Academy of Building Research serves the national construction industry, focusing on applied and development research, committed to solving key technical problems in China's engineering construction; responsible for the formulation and management of China's major engineering construction technical standards and specifications; carrying out common, basic, and public welfare technical research required by the industry; undertaking quality supervision, inspection, and testing tasks for national building engineering, air conditioning equipment, solar water heaters, elevators, chemical building materials, and building energy efficiency. Its scientific research and business work covers more than 70 research fields including building structures, engineering seismic resistance, foundation and subgrade, building environment and energy efficiency, building software, building design, urban planning, building mechanization, building fire protection, construction technology, and building materials. In recent years, it has strengthened research and development in complete sets of green building technologies, new energy application technologies, disaster prevention and reduction technologies, and intelligent integration technologies, forming a diversified development pattern integrating research and development, technical services, comprehensive design, planning, surveying, construction engineering quality and product testing, high-tech and product R&D and production, and engineering contracting. The China Academy of Building Research possesses strong scientific and technological strength and an outstanding talent team. Since its establishment, it has completed 3,318 scientific research achievements, completed 816 standard and specification compilation and revision projects, of which 96 have won national awards, 517 have won various provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, and 417 patents have been obtained; it has one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two national engineering survey and design masters, nine experts with outstanding contributions, five candidates for the Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project, and 88 experts enjoying special government allowances. It is one of the first units in the country to be granted the right to confer doctoral degrees, with the right to confer doctoral and master's degrees in the first-level discipline of civil engineering and the right to confer master's degrees in the second-level discipline of building technology science, and has established a postdoctoral research station in civil engineering, with 28 doctoral supervisors and more than 80 master's supervisors.
