Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data

Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data is a municipal second-class public institution established in March 2016 with the support of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. Its predecessor was the Big Data Information Processing and Application Innovation Team led by Professor Luo Zhiquan, Vice President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. In 2019, the Institute was officially awarded as one of Shenzhen's basic research institutions.

Grounded in mathematics, driven by data, and oriented by major applications, the Institute focuses on three major directions: network system optimization, artificial intelligence large models, and optimization and engineering computing, conducting theoretical research and technological breakthroughs. It is committed to building itself into a leading scientific research institution within the next decade, solving major global problems, and promoting industry standardization and technological progress.

As an innovative link between universities and enterprises, the Institute is dedicated to deepening applied basic research and cutting-edge applied research, concentrating efforts on tackling major core scientific and technological problems, carrying out organized scientific research and innovation activities, and promoting the efficient transformation of research achievements, thereby advancing technological progress and industrial development. The Institute shoulders the mission of leading scientific research innovation and technological breakthroughs in the big data field, implements global talent introduction and training programs, and solves major economic and social application problems to promote social progress and economic development.

Since its establishment, the Institute has achieved remarkable accomplishments in talent cultivation, academic research, and industry-university-research cooperation.

In terms of talent cultivation, the Institute has gathered a group of leading big data talents. Its current personnel include permanent staff, visiting scholars who regularly visit each year for short-term scientific research work, professors and affiliated members from other universities who carry out research projects at the Institute, and visiting students trained by the Institute.

In terms of academic research, members of the Institute have published more than 1,000 high-quality papers in top international journals, and as project leaders and core team members, have undertaken multiple major and key projects at the national level and in Guangdong Province.

In terms of industry-university-research cooperation, the Institute has established in-depth cooperative relationships with government agencies, enterprises, and institutions such as the National Health Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Justice, the Shenzhen Health Commission, the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission, the Shenzhen Justice Bureau, the Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau, the Longgang District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, Longgang District People's Hospital, Luohu District People's Hospital; Huawei, Tencent, JD.com, China Mobile, China Unicom, ZTE, Alibaba, China Electronics Technology Group, CAICT, China Southern Power Grid, Didi, China Merchants Bank, China Construction Bank, West China Hospital, and others, and has achieved a series of phased breakthroughs in multiple key technology fields.
