Bioland Laboratory, formerly known as Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine and Health, was established on December 22, 2017. It is one of the first batch of provincial laboratories initiated by Guangdong Province with the goal of cultivating and creating national laboratories and building a 'reserve team' for national laboratories, and was approved as a provincial-level registered public institution in June 2019.
Facing the major strategic needs of the country and Guangdong Province, Bioland Laboratory, in conjunction with advantageous research institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and numerous international scientific research forces, focuses on frontier research in stem cell and regenerative medicine theory and technology. It lays out five major research directions: frontier basic research in regenerative medicine, clinical innovative research, bioinformatics, biosafety research, and research and development of high-end biomedical devices and consumables. It has invited 24 domestic and international academicians to join, introduced over 1,200 people and 52 innovative collaborative teams, forming a high-level research team.
Bioland Laboratory, based on internationalization and high starting points, is committed to building major scientific and technological infrastructure and platforms, creating frontier research bases for regenerative medicine and health, clinical application bases, achievement transformation and industrialization bases, and high-level talent bases, to promote high-quality development of the biomedicine and health industry. At the same time, it attaches great importance to international cooperation, actively establishes international cooperation centers such as the Max Planck Center for Tissue Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Research, deeply participates in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and strives to become an important component of the Greater Bay Area's efforts to build a scientific and technological innovation center.
